I was in NYC last night, and I didn’t even know how much I (and everyone else) needed a shared political moment that just felt hopeful and exciting (and not cynical, for once!) 🥲 we need feelings like this on the left, too!

I finally received my visa! I'll be a Visiting Research Scholar at NYU's Department of Social & Cultural Analysis this fall. I'll be working on my new project on environmental racism/repro health in London, but I'd be more than happy to also speak about Palestine/repro injustice in your class/uni

I always feel this weird mixture of grief-cum-pride, both an analytical grasp of class and an intimate affective reaction, whenever I understand that people who are my age and have extremely productive academic careers have most likely grown up to parents who are also writers/professors/academics

Does anyone have any book/article recs on the methodological and ethical questions of studying up (i.e., ethnographic studies of politicians, corporations, government employees)?

I'm starting my second major ethnographic research project after the PhD and I can't really tell yet what it is (shifting to a new subfield, doing ethnography as a "researcher" not just a student, less time contraints in terms of outcomes but also life in your mid 30s), but this is challenging!

Someone needs to write about the affective implications of AI knowledge production; after marking a bunch of essays that were either fully or partially written by AI, I feel dumb/numb, angry, and exhausted. They make me crave human mistakes, typos, unfinished thoughts, a wonky structure etc. 😭

The Prime Minister imitating Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech is sickening.

That speech fuelled decades of racism and division. Echoing it today is a disgrace. It adds to anti-migrant rhetoric that puts lives at risk.

Shame on you, Keir Starmer.

This is so scary! And infuriating
A new McCarthy era is upon us. Stupid, depressing, and dangerous as ever. I wonder whose name will carry the dunce cap in the history books. Too many are complicit. I’ll need to find upset and action, but for now I’m feeling grief at the dehumanization inherent to all this.
