These age verification laws are in effect a lock-in that means we only can use Meta products, or from companies that will follow their economic model, and the idea of an open source open protocol solution is impossible. It’s all about combining state and corporate power.

Peter Thiel doesn’t want to destroy civilization; he just treats it as expendable in service of more interesting ideas. My latest essay examines the sophisticated nihilism of a billionaire who sees humanity as variables in his thought experiment.

BREAKING: jury awards massive $167 million in punitive damages against spyware company NSO Group.

Precedent-setting win against notorious #Pegasus spyware maker.

Very consequential for victims to see this.

Congratulations to #WhatsApp on sticking this case through since 2019. Some thoughts 1/

If you’re not paying attention to this budding Trump<>Bukele relationship, you should be 👀

Trump’s alliance with El Salvador’s Bukele should alarm every American who values democracy. Here’s why the “Bukele playbook” is dangerous and why it won’t translate to the U.S. (even though Trump is trying)

Bitcoin is nonpartisan. But in today’s hyper-political climate, it’s often framed as a right-wing movement. Let’s cut through the noise and explore why Bitcoin is for everyone—including progressives. 🧵👇

I strongly disagree with Ken's take on platforming. The notion that we should seal off "propagandists" in ideological quarantine misunderstands our epistemic crisis. Bad ideas don't disappear when ignored—they fester and metastasize in their own bubbles, unchallenged. /1
Anyway Gavin Newsom’s podcast is premised on this concept “I will bring on people I disagree with and have conversations with them and that’s good for Discourse” and then he invites Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon, and Michael Savage. This is the thing about “Discourse among people who disagree:”

this kind of thing is true, but keep in mind most FOSS is maintained as a side project of already-overworked engineers, and complaining isn't going to change anything
FOSS needs more funding and more societal acknowledgement that it is important and not "just a nerd hobby"
Home Assistant suffers from a problem a lot of open source software deals with:

It's very powerful and very useful, and it could be great if not for the fact it's designed by people who think everyone should know how code works and adding things like clear, step-by-step instructions is for babies.

You think the CEOs and boards that run the mobile phone companies, the internet providers, and all the communication infrastructure aren't going to take a knee for this administration when they make unconstitutional demands? Have you seen these cowards?

I'm delighted by the healthy skepticism the BlueSky community shares for mainstream media. Yet, I'm continuously shocked by the anti-Bitcoin rhetoric that's constantly regurgitated.

The Left will lose more elections if we conclude a decentralized monetary system belongs exclusively to the Right.

Attached are photos of the draft Strategic Bitcoin Reserve by the Bitcoin Policy Institute

Right off the bat I am deeply concerned about the specific definition of Bitcoin, not as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, but…🧵

I think @chrislhayes.bsky.social should read the following three books

Resistance Money: A Philosophical Case for Bitcoin: a.co/d/jjwGMVq

A Progressive’s Case for Bitcoin: a.co/d/2pZops2

Broken Money: a.co/d/bhzhHAB

They’re my 3 favorite books on the case(s) for Bitcoin!

A fact check moment is needed for Bluesky! 🚨

No, the vast majority of bitcoin transactions are NOT used for criminal activities. Less than 1%…and it’s usually caught.

Much more is funneled through the traditional financial system amounting to trillions.

The more you know ✨
