You cannot have no #softwareArchitecture. You either have intentional or unintentional software architecture. Choose wisely.
At last I no longer need to lock my PC/Laptop. Nobody knows how to use it anyway.

Browsing through the codebase on a Monday morning feels like an archaeological expedition - finding relics of ancient code, discovering extinct languages, and forever wondering why on earth was that ever a good idea.

Rate mal, warum.

I’m a 45 year old dev with 25 years under my belt and I didn’t know about the 1875 epoch. But if I were querying that data I would wonder why I had so many people 150 years old, and only 150 years old. No 148 or 147 year olds, or basically any records between say 100-150. That would be intriguing.

Always leave your workplace cleaner than you found it. However, don't try to save the world. The effort invested must always match the urgency and scope of the actual task.

Imo the only way to build a good OpenAPI is to use it yourself with client generation.
I've never consumed an OpenAPI spec that wasn't ass

Hot take in the current time (it seems):
MongoDB can be used very well and stably for productive purposes

I'd rather have 3 MongoDB containers using 1.5GB of ram than one using 3GB of ram.

I say that for reasons...

Do you use Open Telemetry? And which Observability Backend do you use?

I know jaeger for tracing, Prometheus for metrics and Loki for logs but wonder if there is a nice all-in-one self hosted one nowadays

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.

I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.

Know your #quality #requirements for any #software #architecture, you are designing or working on and know them precisely.

Requirements like "flexible" are not precise enough. Flexible could mean everything: Extensibility, Changeability, Scalability, Portability, Agility, etc.

If you aren't able to establish a clean #softwareArchitecture in a #monolith, #microservices won't do anything for you.

If your #software #architecture is event driven und you exchange state with these, but you don’t answer requests by aggregating them, it’s probably not called #eventSourcing but event-carried state transfer.

And don’t forget to throw away user stories like „as a user I want to log in to use the system“. These are not user stories. No user wants to log in, this is just a necessity. Not all requirements have to be user stories.
User stories don’t suck; bad user stories do.

Stop chasing requirements like a shopping list 🛒—dig deeper and capture the real customer problem. That’s where the magic happens. ✨

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Software Architect: The cup is a Generic Domains as it seems to be the least custom and the least important part of the system. We should buy not make it.
Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Senior software engineer: This is an extremely imprecise metric and I don't see any way to set an alarm, please revisit your plan for monitoring the cup
Optimist: The cup is half full

Pessimist: The cup is half empty

Writer: …did I have a plan for this cup? Was it supposed to link to some other part of the plot? Crap. I really don’t want to go through and take every mention of the cup out. Maybe I can kill someone with it.

I accidentally explained my understanding of an IT architect
IMO a bit hard to call someone who plays devils advocate on both ends, understands business and tech and continually compares actual technical implementation with quality goals and either points deviations out or makes suggestions/decisions based on the findings soulless.
