Hi everyone from launch day for A Philosophy of Thieves!

Thieves is my 9th novel & it’s launching close to the10-year birthday of my first book, Updraft. To celebrate, I’ve made my monthly craft essay public, with how-to-writer thoughts I’ve picked up over the past decade.

This is my work visibility post!
I had one original story published in 2025 and I love it. It's "There Be Monsters" in Sunday Morning Transport. A big thanks to @franwilde.bsky.social and the team for publishing it. It's about mermaid murder thoughts!

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

So, we don’t have a functioning government, just That Guy; the Speaker has never read a newspaper or seen anything; costs are skyrocketing; holiday travel is screwed; and That Other Guy is getting a trillion dollar payday, but it’s women who are ruining the workplace.

Did I get that right.

The cover of A Philosophy of Thieves by Fran Wilde, which features a masked female character leaping with style from an ornate window. I received this as an eARC via NetGalley. This is a delightful YA heist novel. Roosa Carnarvier (Vane) and her family are professional thieves, who, in post-apocalyptic Washington DC, perform heists (with strict contracts and rules) as entertainment for the wealthy.

If you've got a Republican representing you, call them and tell them you blame them, and their party, for the shutdown.
Sen. Cornyn on prospects for ending the shutdown: “we’ve got a ways to go"

"Sadly, I don't see this ending soon, unless enough Democrats realize this is hurting them politically, so they basically overrule Schumer”

Teen Vogue did some great journalism around immigration detention and enforcement. Sounds like corporate has now killed that off.

The media landscape shrinks even further.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
