47 brave humans and 1 mannequin arrested today outside the Ministry of Justice; chosen as the location because it is where Attorney General Richard Hermer, who signs off on “terrorism” prosecutions, holds office.

This contribution to the volume of human misery is yet another policy from Labour based on a false premise, in this case that refugees are overly attracted to Britain. It will increase bureaucratic limbo, thus making worse the problem of "cohesion" it purports to solve.

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

Just in case anyone is listening, please note that UK universities cannot operate successfully on the basis of continuous reduction of academic staff and academic staff pay. No amount of staff wellness sessions will change this.

It’s payday and I’m ordering some spring bulbs for my garden- how wonderfully hopeful!
I’m using @woodscolt79.bsky.social excellent guide to avoid Israeli suppliers.

Part of the Israeli colonial project is replacing native horticulture, violently destroying Palestinian agriculture such as olives.
Boycotting Israeli bulbs
Where do our flower bulbs come from? In June, Instagram poster Vicky Burns Bellman shared her correspondence with bulb supplier Farmer Gracy, and there was a social media flurry when they confirmed…

And so it begins! Posted my #wearetheuniversity @ucu.org.uk ballot nice and earl in a break between online tutorials. I voted YES to strike action, YES to ASOS- we can’t take the overwork and exploitation any more!

Recent shoplifting I have seen in Upton Park:
-the mum taking nappies out of their security-protected packaging and shoving a handful under her buggy.
-the old man who slid a pack of sausages around the self-service till so as not to swipe it with the rest of his meagre shop.
I got behind the scenes of the Met Police’s Operation Zoridon, the UK’s largest ever crackdown on organised shoplifting gangs.

This operation sends a message that if you shoplift or trade in stolen goods, you will be brought to justice.

Of all the bullshit headlines with zero accountability of this conflict, this one still shocked me- the ceasefire has been broken. Who by? By Israel. How? By bombing and killing Gazans.
Zero accountability. The Guardian takes it for granted the ceasefire has a snooze button that Israel can push.

My favourite discourse is when someone points at a poll and says "do you really think that the most racist THIRTY PERCENT of committed UK voters could POSSIBLY be racist" like it's some kind of gotcha. Yes of course they are FFS just look around you

I was planning a few visits of London’s Open House Festival this weekend- disappointed to see their main sponsor is AirBnB. Not only does AirBnB actively harm architectural heritages worldwide, it also rents West Bank properties stolen from Palestinians and illegally occupied.
Regretfully, boycott!

Stay safe today London! The Met police (aided by expensive loan forces from across England and Wales) only made 400 arrests yesterday so there are 800 suspected terrorists ON THE LOOSE.

CW domestic violence/ gender based violence.
So depressing that the British media can produce a sentence like this, straight-faced. Osbourne knocked his wife’s teeth out and was thoroughly rehabilitated in the interests of light television profits.
What next, J*hnny D*pp hosts a teatime quiz show?

This week I read two “pandemic novels” (by coincidence), Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Dream Count and Elizabeth Strout’s Lucy By The Sea, both good, and it amazed me how little I think now about how the pandemic felt. Locked in a box in my memory.

Hey Thames Water thanks for raising my bill by 40% to make your shitty company looking desirable to venture capital.
I also really appreciate this little note about mending leaks and drips- I will endeavour, like you, to keep my daily wastage under half a billion litres! We’re all in it together.

Incredibly concerned to see the forcible interception of the Madleen in international waters, and thinking of all those who were on board and have been detained. UK must condemn this breach of international law and immediately demand their release.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

I’m copresenting with a colleague so she would be fully supervised- astounding barriers to single parent academics for 2025!

Men are extremely keen to explain to me that Britain *needs* a domestic steel production plant and doesn't necessarily *need* universities. Okay. Steel contributed about £1.7bn to the UK economy in 2024. Universities contributed more than £200bn.
