I do understand (if not forgive) Sadiq Khan‘s occasional cop-shagging social media posts, since London is starkly divided into

…and the (friendless, falling apart) Met Police will jump on any bandwagon that looks like they’re “effectively fighting crime“.

But it’s clear a lot of shoplifting is about basic need, or supplementing basic foodbank fare, in a cost-of-living crisis encouraged by price-gouging supermarkets.

I’m quite shaken by the revisiting. Supermarket trips as adventures, phone calls about sickness and death in the peripheries of my circle, time looping and expanding in frightening ways.
My takeaway is, I think, how incredibly important the work novelists do is.
