We're so back. Hey everybody - I'm still here! But between the constant creative burnout that comes with my life as a copywriter, and putting more investment in other hobbies (like finally reading again after years of being unable to finish a page), I haven't been writing as many essays. Oh, how delicious. There's so much happening in this episode, to the point where it's a little intimidating to think about unpacking it all. The last episode was a bit of an intermission in Eun-jung and Sang-yeon's story, but now we're thrown right back into the fold. Episode 4 of You and Everything Else sees Eun-jung rekindle her friendship with Sang-yeon.

If you're wondering what the delay was with this one, it's pretty simple - with all the decent pirate sites dead, and Netflix's stupid non-screenshots policy, I couldn't get any images to go with this piece. In the end I decided to just publish without - if you have any recommendations, let me know! I'll aim to update the essay later when I have a solution.

You and Everything Else: Episode 2 (Recap & Analysis
Episode 2 of You and Everything Else left me with more questions than answers at first, as it pulls focus to an entirely new character. But I think there's still a lot to learn about the fraught relationship between our heroines, and it's shaping up to be just as complicated as promised. In the present day, Sang-yeon tells Eun-jung that she dying of cancer - it's fatal, she's going to Zurich to be euthanised, and she wants Eun-jung to accompany her.

I… do not actually want multiple seasons of every drama. Part of the appeal of kdramas (and cdramas) for me when I started was that they are finite in scope. I am actually less inclined to start a drama I know has multiple seasons (&/or more seasons coming) because I don’t want the commitment.

This question came up on Reddit and the answer is post-production skin whitening and heavy makeup. If you see the same actors in films or older kdramas you see that in reality they are much tanner and have (gasp) visible pores.

Ossan’s Love: Shockingly, I Loved It
If you're a fan of J-dramas, or BL dramas in general, the likelihood that you've heard of Ossan's Love (2018) is pretty high. It's considered to be one of the first Japanese BLs, and it's so popular that it's had movie sequels, drama sequels and reboots. I've known about it for a long time, but I've honestly never been interested in checking it out.

I find it so charming when kdramas have their 40 year old characters just pretend to be in high school for flashbacks. Don't get a younger actor, just get someone with a mortgage to put on a backpack and a sweater vest. A calm twinkle in their eye as they pretend to be experiencing puberty. 10/10
