I feel like the B plot about Alfie's father in Matlock s2 is making me wonder how critics/scholars with more expertise about how addiction and recovery are portrayed on TV are feeling about this.
It's a bit outside my field, but I was having real misgivings until s2e7.

I wish I’d gone hard on being a creative instead of an academic. I feel like creatives have so many more opportunities to feel fulfilled by what they produce. I mostly put stuff out that makes people resentful or annoyed.
Not like that doesn’t happen to creators too, but.

There are actually plenty of positive and affirming reasons to quote-post something and I'm actually like... pissed off that years and years of Look At This Idiot has gotten us to a point where it's basically unusable.

I am watching the second season of Matlock (which I didn't know had started) and I continue to be astounded that a TV show in 2025 is happening where the main character is a frankly unlikeable woman over the age of 60. It's kind of wild!
