Okay dumb story but when TNG was on the air originally, and I was a teen (like middle school age), I hated Riker.
Why? Because my asshat abusive stepfather had the same facial hair and even a similar build and voice. So I kinda conflated the two. Unfairly, but understandably, I think.

I saw a picture of MN protestors and heard myself humming "Do You Hear the People Sing?" and
For a moment, I got kind of upset at myself for that. It's the sort of silly thinking that feels like it reduces real, complex problems to their shallow, nuance-less counterparts in fiction.

Every time people express confusion about the popularity of the Sims it reminds me of the heyday of Facebook games and how suddenly the biggest demographic of video game players was women 35-50 and if you asked any of those women if they were "gamers" they'd say no.

Starfleet Academy is a "more misses than hits" show but Gina Yashere as Lura Thok is really the high point of the show for me. In ep 3 we find out she's in a relationship with Tig Notaro's Jett Reno and THAT is also fun.

Changing my advanced game design course syllabus for the first time in a long time; basing a lot of it on @rich-lem.bsky.social's "Playful Production Process" with a splash of @kaittremblay.bsky.social's "Collaborative Worldbuilding," rather than using "Rules of Play" which I've done for a while.

Like I've been there. I've thought, I really enjoy Thing! I can't wait for Thing 2, as a hardcore fan of Thing! I am making Thing my entire identity!
And then Thing 2 comes out and it is terrible and you feel broken and empty about it.
