I was mulling this over, and this is what I landed on:

I think it's about campaign strategy rather than Newsom in particular. My guess is the institutional Party plans to run a 2026 and 2028 national strategy as a soulless triangulating reactionary centrist campaign like Newsom is running now.
democratic party cheerleaders are really doing their best to make it seem like the nominee for president in 2028 is gavin newsom already huh

0. Warhammer 40,000 warp-drive - achieves FTL travel by using magic to shortcut through Hell, unreliable but potential for fun scenarios
FTL systems ranked:

3. hyperspace - looks cool af but essentially just magical dimension
2. warp speed - more scientific (based on alcubierre drive)
1. mass relays - keeps things contained (can only jump to certain points & then normal propulsion from there) leading to interesting story dynamics

As a Texan this Boston Globe Column made me so insane I had to write about it www.chron.com/culture/arti...

It appears that DHS agents have strategically been stepping in front of vehicles to ‘justify’ shooting since at least 2014.

This seems to be the training.

It's kind of wild to look back at when he turned an interview into unhinged flailing at Ta-Nehisi Coates and humiliated himself so badly that he was officially reprimanded by his bosses at the time. That was a successful audition to become lead anchor. It's why he has Cronkite's chair right now!

Growing up I was a huge Orwell fan, like I own and have read all his books and his 4-volume collected writings.

My single favorite thing of the whole is probably his 1940 essay "Boys' Weeklies" which was about twopenny story magazines for boys that were incredibly popular at the time.
pisses me off that people call stuff "orwellian" when they just mean it reminds them of 1984. the man wrote other books

We are very excited for Iowa discourse happening outside the appointed time of presidential election years.

If you want to do something like this, why not buy a $150k home in a small town in Italy, France, Spain, or Mexico, instead of having nine people share one bathroom after they eat at a restaurant called "Stinky's?"

This is a Walmart Supercenter in my community, adjacent to a large apartment complex that caters to low-income renters. I highlighted the pedestrian access in green. It is (A) circuitous and (B) doesn't even access the business so requires an extended walk through parking lots and frontage roads.

It feels weird to me whenever Yarvin pops up in my feed. Back when he started blogging I was in my early 20s posting on forums, and some of my online friends were nerds who loved sci fi and history and did stuff like semi-ironically supporting Habsburg restoration as a bit. We were dorks.
it's embarrassing to live in a country where curtis yarvin is an intellectual titan. every time i wind up reading something where he's mentioned he's trying to start up a nouveau art collective and be skinny. a forum warrior who just wanted to be a socialite

One of my pet theories is that one reason for lasting bitterness about the public health measures is that we normally humor people who have bad, incorrect ideas, but temporarily we couldn't afford to do that. They're going to have feelings about it for the rest of their lives.
I honestly cannot believe we are still arguing about school closures during COVID, it’s as over as it’s ever going to be and we gain literally nothing by still talking about it

I just realized something that I never put together before but feels in some way important: the Dirty Harry film series and the classic Columbo TV movies were contemporary works. I feel like you could get something from putting them in conversation, but AFAIK it hasn't been done seriously.
watching Dirty Harry for the first time and this is some of the shoddiest policework I've ever seen
