I got nasal drainage when I had colds as a kid and my mom taught me the saltwater rinse to help with occasional inflammation from that but if you have an actual problem like strep or something you should get seen

One way to understand our current moment is that we're all suffering through a revolt against human society and the notion of public decency, initiated by a camarilla of astonishingly inadequate and embittered little men with crabbed, deformed souls.

Grant graduated West Point near the bottom of his class. After a pretty good run in the Mexican-American War he was posted to Oregon and he missed his wife so much that he was cashiered for alcohol abuse.

During the Civil war it turned out he was one of the greatest military geniuses in history.

Before the ACW Sherman was superintendent of a military academy in Louisiana and his close friend was an instructor from Virginia who was very enthusiastic about secession. After the war, so maybe apocryphal, the friend recalled Sherman didactically explaining exactly what was coming:

He died from them doing that. Also he had some time to know that he was dying, but he didn't think it was his doctors' fault because he didn't have that knowledge. He had some time to think about how he was dying but he wasn't mad at the guys who killed him. He just didn't have access to that info.

People can get confused about this because it doesn't come up a lot, but you probably have like 10 pints of blood in your body. When George Washington got sick his doctors decided he had too much blood and started taking blood out of his body and they took 5 pints out. They took away half his blood.

I am a US History teacher. When it comes up I make sure to explain that George Washington was one of the richest men in North America, but he got old and had strep (probably) so the best doctors available drained 50% of his blood and then he died.

I imagine it looks kind of like Truth Coming Out of Her Well but she's here to chastise us with a whip for building several bathrooms that are just closets full of sinks

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to ascend vertically through the enormous patio doors mounted horizontally outside the kitchen/greatroom/guestroom/dining room that is actually just a huge empty space ringed by sinks

Most kids scroll constantly as their default activity. Now they're seeing their feeds choked by low-quality GenAI slop content, and it really pisses them off. I find it sort of funny because the authentic human-created content most of them prefer is garbage anyway, but I get it.

To your point, this year I've started to hear my students complain about AI more and more. It surprised me at first but when I thought about it it made perfect sense. They're addicted to social media content like memes, photography, arts and crafts, tutorial videos, short form content, etc.

US labor law is absurdly favorable to employers and in application it becomes even more so during Republican administrations.

The ALU's next step is negotiating their first contract with Amazon. They are stalled out at this point because Amazon refuses to negotiate.

There's a bit in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" where Hunter S. Thompson mocks the squares by saying that drug freaks could rig speakers under the worst conditions imaginable but evidently there wasn't a cop in the country who could set up a halfway adequate sound system in a ballroom:

My favorite thing about the Rush Hour series is the behind-the-scenes footage from when Ratner was AWOL but they had to film an important fight scene, so Jackie Chan stepped in and choreographed and directed it on the fly.

There have also been a lot of reports about their internal "no scalps" directive to avoid resignations or firings as they could be construed as admissions or error or defeat. Maybe they decided it isn't working, or Trump is just getting so pissed at some of them that he doesn't care.

Based on the context where they're discussing political prisoners, Rory and Paris probably refer to it by the old name self-consciously to signal their opposition to the military government.

It's a complex topic but in 1989 the military regime changed the official name of the country in English from Burma to Myanmar mostly for internal propaganda reasons. Some countries and organizations (e.g. the UN) recognized the change but others rejected it (e.g. the US government, still today).
Myanmar, Burma and why the different names matter
Why are there two names for one country? The answer is complicated because when it comes to Myanmar, pretty much everything is political. Including language.

They want a reason it happened to you but wouldn't happen to them. Life is scary. They need to reassure themselves that there's something you did wrong but they would have done right to come through okay. In your place, they would have protected themselves with some simple maneuver you neglected.

If you try to decide what is the worst thing about Amy Chua, it's a very crowded field, but IMO it's the fact that she wasn't just advising her students to get sexy for Uncle Brett, she sent her own daughters clerk for those perverts.

Now, I'll admit that this Walmart has bad vibes and stuff has happened there, so maybe they don't *want* to be easily accessible by foot. However, it has a public transit stop in the parking lot, and it's a *Walmart*. This just everybody leaving money on the table rather than supporting walking.

Image 1 shows the desire paths. It isn't totally clear from above, but it descends a short but steep embankment with no landscaping, seen from the Walmart side in image 2. Image 3 is from the complex side so you can see they forced their way through a hedge.
