Having a pet means turning your head away for one moment and quickly realizing that morning cuddle time was actually just an excuse to get closer to the food you were eating, and now nothing on God's green Earth can save your sandwich.

Mainstream palaeoart often seems lily-white in terms of the diversity of its contributors. But pieces of palaeoart that rank among the -MOST SEEN- works in the entire field were examples of black craftsmanship. This week came news on the passing of Garfield G. Minott (1966-2025)... cont

One of the highlights of a short trip to Yunnan last week – the Spot-breasted Parrotbill: an icon for functional morphologists, an insectivore with the 'wrong' beak (stubby like a seed-eater) which nonetheless makes ecophysical sense because it uses bite-force to snip through grass/bamboo stems

Day194 of photoshopping @lastweektonight.com's John Oliver with fossils in the hopes that he helps save the Paleontological Research Institution

Think of the deep sea synergy John (H. sapiens) could have with PRI's collection, including this fossil coelacanth (Diplurus longicaudatus) #FossilFriday🧪

One of my favorite things about the tropical dry forests of Guanacaste are the winter visiting Scissor-tailed Flycatchers. They're later than a lot of other N American migrants, but they're starting to show up in good numbers now. When it gets too wet in Bijagua, I just head down to the sun. #birds

A Livyatan catching a large squid! this painting was inspired by a recent video of a modern sperm whale swallowing a giant squid. While Livyatan had a fierce arsenal of teeth and massive jaw muscles, we still don't know what it was eating exactly.

One of my favorite housemates is the healthy population of Spotted Least Geckos (Sphaerodactylus millepunctatus) that patrol @casabentbill.bsky.social looking for delicious insects.

A Central American endemic, these are usually difficult to find.

This one was only about 23mm long.

Oof, Spotify is in the "find out" stage right about now, huh?

I've been trying out some other music services and I'm finding that Tidal is a pretty seamless transition. I'm sure the others also work.
Spotify is crashing HARD because of the boycott. Their stock dropped 11% in value over the last month. Let’s keep this going!

Tell everyone you know to boycott Spotify. There are plenty of alternatives that don’t run ICE advertisements and screw over artists.

We made it easy at boycottspotify.com.
