The Bluesky management is a really good example of how you can't just assume that putting a person who has experienced marginalization in charge will solve issues for marginalized people on that platform/service. If that person is deeply privileged, they'll still side with capital.

Finally performed at an open mic in Bloomington and people shared a lot of kind words about the songs I've been working on.

Downside is now I'm inspired and awake past 2am writing music 😂

New article out in @theconversation.com!

"When people at high risk of algorithmic harm such as trans people and disabled people are also those most wary of AI, that’s an indication for AI designers, developers and policymakers to reassess their efforts."

Transgender, nonbinary and disabled people more likely to view AI negatively, study shows
Some of the marginalized groups most likely to be harmed by AI are also most wary of it. A new study’s findings raise questions about equity and consent in technology design.

Every time I am not on top of my anxiety meds, I get a ton of work done but I neglect my health.

When I am on top of my meds I am much less productive but healthier to my body.

I keep having to constantly remind myself my health is more important than getting a publication.

Let’s all remember that our conferences are attended by people who speak many languages. Your presentation is a chance to explain your research as clearly as possible. It is not the time to try to show off your vocabulary, which is likely inaccessible to many in the room.

I think my body only chooses to have nightmares when I'm with my husband because his cats wake me up from them.

Traveling in the US is becoming pretty hectic. I'm flying into Newark hoping my plane will actually leave and I just found out there's a NJ transit train strike.

Travel has become so routine and mundane for me that I really took it functioning (somewhat) reliably for granted

Rather than parroting results here I’d recommend reading the full paper as it’s open access.

Instead I’ll highlight some of the cascading issues related to legal gender recognition in hopes of highlighting why it’s so important, especially in light of the UK decision and related efforts.

it’s been such an honor to work on this project and i am so proud of this team! my friendship ended with the NSF, trans technologies are my only friend
Our team (a collaboration across four universities) was researching and creating a trans-centered augmented reality face filter app. But in today’s anti-trans, anti-science political climate, the NSF abruptly cut our funding before we could finish it.

I find it very hard to say no but today I backed out of a project I got pulled into but really had little interest or motivation for.

I feel so much better :)

Dog watching for professors is so much fun.

I get to hang out in a really cool house with sweet dogs and sleep in a much more comfortable bed than mine. It feels like a free Airbnb stay where I get paid.
