For Friday, from my best of November 2025 folder, here's a #scape - I call these #waterylandscapes because they're natural liminal places in between - not all water, not all land and usually deep in the mists. #eastcoastkin #oregoncoast #blueskyartgallery #landscapephotography #photography #fog

there needs to be a sex offender registry but for ice guys. you should have to go door to door when you move to a new area and inform your neighbors that you used to be an ice guy. they shouldn't be allowed with 500 feet of a school

"...we are not simply a strong midterm-showing away from fixing this."

This is the most important thing both Americans and the rest of the world have to realise asap if they haven't already.
My take is that calling it fascism matters for three reasons

First because I'm a historian, and I believe we need to get it rigorously right

Second because explaining why it's fascism is an important step in convincing ordinary folks and Dem leaders alike that we are not simply a strong ...

This is what broke me last night when I came home & saw nbc news. They didn’t use the word lie.
This case really is as good an example of a black and white moral test for news organisations as you’ll get, and many of them are failing it.

You cannot both-sides a factually unequivocal event unless you use ‘a lie’ as one of those sides.
Sky News on Renee Nicole Good murder: "There are deeply conflicting accounts of what happened."

REALLY? Gonna both-sides this? One "account" can be seen on video and is confirmed by a dozen eye-witnesses. The other is a social media post by history's most notorious pathological liar.

Grow a spine.

Reading a new book by an author I like so I won’t say who it is but. She has a quirk where she constantly describes her characters saying something with a “gentle smile” or giving a “gentle smile” & I can’t unsee it now. So every time I have to stop reading and do a weird gentle smile & snicker.

Last day of vacation wherein I try frantically to do all the tasks and chores I didn't get done for the last two weeks while I was busy playing minecraft, drinking too much wine, doomscrolling and cookies.

Remember how appalled we all were in 2022 when Russia completely unprovoked attacked Ukraine? That is what we’re doing tonight with Venezuela. We are the bad guys here. Everyone who supports this is supporting unprovoked murder. Fuck every last one of them

Black eye peas soaked, now cooking, Hoppin’ John, collards & cornbread 4ish is the plan. Used to think you had to eat them first thing in the morning; glad I grew out of that nonsense.

Related, I eat them every year for luck. I don’t have much luck- but I’m afraid to stop in case things get worse.

This nightmare year is indeed ending; I watched the sun sink into the ocean from the far western edge of the continent myself just an hour ago. Happy new year and may it be better than the last, oh please oh gods. #photography #phoneography #sunset #NewYearsEve

#ArtAdventCalendar 23/24 a somewhat overwrought film photo of the Cape Disappointment lighthouse. This is a cell phone photo of a glossy print, so, uh, it is what it is. I was trying hard to sell it as a postcard a few years back but alas. #photography #believeinfilm #lighthouse #landscape #pnw

Seeing a lot of that "#1 movie when you were 10 predicts 2026" meme going around.

Abandon all hope, y'all: the #1 movies when I was 10 are either The Exorcist or Towering Inferno. Possibly the Poseidon Adventure. Looks like 2026 is right on track!
