I was in Ottawa today all the way from DC but couldn't go to the Charge game tonight because I have to be in Montréal for games starting at 830 tomorrow morning and I missed the win on home ice

Women athletes/sports organizations need to speak out about banning trans women and girls from sports because it is supposedly their rights that are being vindicated by that policy. Saying nothing when they are being touted by transphobia as the beneficiaries of these policies is disgusting.
What pains me the most about this week has been the sheer scope of the silence from the women’s sports world as trans women and girls are being banned.
this week it feels like i've failed at my job
The trans community is grieving, and the sports world is silent.

A man who is not very good at hockey tried to give me unsolicited advice last night and I told him that it was on my top 10 list of things I do not want to hear right now. Even after that, he still kept trying

If you are in Maryland, put Angela Alsobrooks on blast. She has voted to confirm three of Trump's nominees and her voicemail is full. She has provided only one contact number and her website is barely baked. It's inexcusable that she's this unprepared given her huge constituency of federal workers

The silence from the women’s sports community and its athletes regarding the EO banning trans women’s and girls from women’s sports? It’s deafening.

Everything happening in government is overwhelming right now, but we can't lose focus on this. Not only is it inhumane and horrific in itself, but it's laying the groundwork for other horrors

The "all gender" restroom sign at my office was pointedly replaced with a "women's" restroom sign and someone taped a handwritten sign next to it that said "all gender" and "all are welcome" with hearts and all the pronouns on it

Fresh blog up from @lesleyryder.bsky.social about the $5 million settlement announced today that the NWSL will pay for leaving abuse of players unchecked.

And it's got a full copy of the agreement if you'd like to read it! It's linked to at the bottom of the post.

Fuck all the way off with this. We're utterly unprepared for this moment because Democratic leaders didn't take project 2025 seriously enough to actually have a plan to counter it. When people tell you who they are and what they're going to do believe it!

Ummm... No? We're in the middle of a fascist takeover and minimizing that to sound smart and condescend to people who are legitimately panicked is annoying AF
In many ways what we are seeing in 2025 is the triumph of Pat Buchanan, who among other things convinced Nixon to veto federal child care legislation in 1971.

None of this is nearly as new as we liberals want to think.

It really was the height of hypocrisy for Democratic leadership to laugh at Donald Trump for only having a concept of a plan for healthcare when they don't even have a concept of a plan to deal with a fascist takeover of government

Should I be afraid that angry Canadians are going to douse me with maple syrup when I'm at the US Canada 4 nations game in Montréal
I can’t help but think representing Canada means a little bit more right now for Canadian athletes.

Wearing the maple leaf internationally for Canada’s athletes is always a badge of honour.

They’ve always shared with me in interviews how much it means. Maybe more than ever now.
