Rep. Beyer has been speaking up for his constituents in Arlington and Alexandria as well as for the rule of law ever since DOGE claimed the jobs of a lot of locals last year. But he is only one of 435 people in the House, and in the minority party at that. Stop voting for Republicans!

To everyone telling Rep. Beyer to impeach Trump, he can vote for that, but there is a Republican majority in both the House and Senate, so an impeachment vote would die right there. Moreover, impeachment has no effect on an administration that breaks laws left and right.

People are rightly disgusted by this speech, but it’s a measure of fascism’s normalization that many see this as more of the awful same rather than what I think most of us who’ve been reporting this beat hear it as: a significant calculated escalation. Full alert stuff.

Sadly, that isn’t new. In 2018 I was dismissed was dismissed by a twenty-something HR gal for not having workplace data science experience even though I was a software developer who had just completed a data science credential and portfolio in my off hours while working full time.

I don’t know, maybe they can use more of those spray-painted plastic decorations that have proliferated on the walls of the Oval Office instead of real materials? Trump doesn’t seem to need quality building materials based on the White House modifications thus far.

I agree with the previous posters that it’s rich to hear this from the Trump administration, who have caused so many to lose their jobs through the DOGE bloodshed, or even their lives through the shuttering of USAID, and the violence of ICE, and that’s just for starters.

It’s a puzzlement that people are fiercely resisting being dragged out of their cars by masked thugs who jump out of unmarked vehicles.

Yeah, I didn’t think it was far-fetched that the Trump administration would do a flying leap into authoritarianism. Most people seem to imagine that there are guardrails somewhere, and Trump’s first actions beginning in January were to get rid of the guardrails.

I remember hearing that people down in Silicon Valley were complaining about Larry Ellison flying his jet in at all hours 25 years ago, so he evidently didn’t care about behaving himself.
