I love the dark humor of the sandwich special at Brother's Deli, a Jewish deli that's mostly staffed by Hispanic employees, being called the "Big Brother"

Just got back from a week's vacation, did anything happen here while we were gone?

Voters could hold the MPRB accountable for this, but park board issues get crowded out in every election by the mayor and council. We could have a parks system MORE accountable to the voters if we abolished the park board and instead had it administered by the elected city council.
And it seems wrong to me that there is essentially no competitive process or meaningful evaluation of Rice's services. He's going to get paid for another year within minutes of new Commissioners taking their oaths. For what MPRB pays Rice, it could directly employ multiple in-house gov't attorneys

The City as a singular entity doesn't understand why clearing sidewalks is important, and my eternal fear is that until they do, any City effort to improve sidewalk clearing will ultimately fail.
isn't this also the city's perspective on the snow shoveling pilot? they seem to be promoting it as a benefit for property owners instead of a public good

It would be amazing if anyone in this Ouroboros of finger pointing over which government is responsible for cleaning a particular spot would even say "we'll bring this to the attention of our government partners" rather than just "go bug someone else, resident"
Seems like I need to bug the Park Board about this after all.

Are my hands cold because I need new/different gloves, or because 20 years of T1 Diabetes has finally messed up the circulation in my hands?

Why can't people just dislike other people normally anymore.
Ezra’s Klein derangement syndrome is real.

I probably agree with him more than the average pundit, and find him to generally be a good faith actor even if he has dumb takes from time to time and is overly credulous towards some republicans… but the discourse about him is just unhinged

In the latest round of "wtf is up with my neighbors" our trash day is tomorrow, so carts should be out tonight. They still haven't brought in their carts from trash pickup 6 days ago. They're now snowed in.

I think you could pick like one person one each block to pay $50/week in winter to keep the block clear and that’s all you’d really need for municipal snow shoveling.

Honestly just buy me a nice 2 stage electric snowblower and I’ll do my whole block for free every time it snows.

My primary concern with any kind of municipal clearance program is that first and foremost "the city" as a single enterprise believes the current system works, and no matter how much money or council directives we throw at the problem, it will never be solved if "the city" doesn't believe it exists.

As in every debate it's easy to contrast the imagined better with the messy current reality. My own view is we could do better than the current system, but ensuring timely clearance with a public program of some sort would be challenging.

This strikes me as a problem that will solve itself, if we'd just let it.

i believe people when they say linux has gotten better in the last few years. what i'm skeptical of is that linux Guys have improved. i will not use an OS where i'm at high risk of someone calling me stupid for not liking some aspect of the experience. i must be allowed to hate the computer

Only pushed one car out of the snow tonight, but I'm not sure what the cooling off period is to know if I pushed it out twice or if it was all part of a single stuck event.
