I dream of a day when corporations have to reapply for every tax break, contract, and grant every six months, with a requirement that it is the CEO who must complete the paperwork, and attest under penalty of law that they personally did so.
The shutdown was an excuse, not a reason, to go after SNAP.
SNAP recipients have to re-apply either every 6 months or year. Onerous process, with almost no fraud.
There are no shutdown-related requirement for SNAP renewal. But it would predictably result in low-income families going hungry.

Much as I hate the fact that it was a Jeff Bezos company that did it, I love the fact that Musk's SpaceX is about to lose its monopoly on reusable booster launch systems. Huge props to the actual engineers at Blue Origin for this win.
It's an impressive accomplishment for the new mega-rocket launch system, and paves the way for the company to start re-using the boosters in commercial missions.

If we ever get out of this, we need to rebuild societal structures built on the now too obvious truisms "power corrupts" and "the love of money is the root of all evil." Term limits. Inheritance limits. Extremely high tax rates on wealth gains.
There is something about the upbringing of certain people that means their entire foundational understanding of the world is built on the idea that for all the "niceties" of morality, might is right, the powerful should get what they want and enough money should be able to buy ANYTHING.
