I'm sorry that this wasn't their first instinct AND I'm sorry that they didn't immediately throw the "agreements" in the fascists' faces but better late than never, I guess.

I taught a graduate level Cognition class this past semester using OECS for the course materials. 10/10 do recommend!
If you haven't been looking recently at the Open Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science (oecs.mit.edu), here's your reminder that we are a free, open access resource for learning about the science of mind.

Today we are launching our new Thematic Collections to organize our growing set of articles!

At which point will we agree that we must consider going back to a hybrid option for academic conference attendance?

Everything feels awful but at least I can spend my next 60-ish hours refreshing Keith's page for Barkley updates.
After multiple failed attempts, the conch was blown at 10:37. The 2025 Barkley Marathons begins in one hour. #BM100.

English pronouns always out here catching strays when there are much more elaborate systems that people could be worried about 😆
Common Classical Chinese pronouns:
6 pronouns for first person, 5 pronouns for second person, 5 for third person, 3 for referencing oneself, and endless forms of honorific and humble forms

English speakers should not be complaining 😂

Apparently when I agreed to review for #CogSci2024 I neglected to list my expertise. I see words I know but not how I understand they go together.

…I have some apologetic emails to write.

IRB: do everything in your power to protect the confidentiality of participants.

Controller’s Office: we’re going to need the name, SSN, mother’s maiden name, and first car of everyone who receives research participation fees.

Today a child study participant told me that my prizes were boring and I should do something to make it up to her.

In case you needed a reminder that academia requires a thick skin.

Feeling the #BUCLD fomo, as I take a desperately needed travel break this weekend and miss my first one in nearly a decade. Thanks for the semi-hybrid option!

I received an email this morning that signs off with “with sunshine,” and I want to know where they got this optimism from.

Hey #AcademicSky, what’s with faculty scheduling exams for a lot longer than their class period in the middle of the semester? I’m having to find alts for class participation for students who will miss due to exams in *other* classes. Feel disrespectful to the student and to me.

Another great quote from an academic article: “Brain patterns composing an episode are often claimed to be measurable in principle, in terms of information processing or whatever.”
