♥️ the creative ways communities are protesting ICE.

Here’s a video of Coachella Valley residents playing Mariachi outside the hotel where agents are staying — to keep them awake 😂

an important reminder from @laist.com and @jacobmargolis.bsky.social that LA fire cleanup continues to be confusing at best: laist.com/news/climate...
A reader asked: Is fire debris being dumped in my neighborhood? LAist investigated
Residents are seeing trucks with Army Corps markings far from any sites where fire debris is allowed to go. Here’s what we figured out.

This has wide ranging implications- I successfully argued NYPD’s discriminatory treatment of a trans man arrested at Occupy is subject to heightened scrutiny, making precedent in the policing context.

This opinion also opens the door wide open to police violence & discrimination against trans ppl.
BREAKING: The U.S. Supreme Court upholds Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.

Robert, for the 6-3 court, holds that the law is not subject to heightened scrutiny under equal protection and passes rational basis review. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

For my latest newsletter, I tried to round up and vet the (sometimes conflicting) info on how tear gas impacts our health and environment, and how best to protect yourself. substack.com/home/post/p-...

It felt so good to have this conversation with @filowenstein.bsky.social. I spend a lot of time thinking about disaster preparedness and prepping while being disabled — and I clearly need an outlet for this, so thank you, Fi, for having me on the show open.substack.com/pub/fionalow...

I have a new feature on Clear Health Costs about #LongCovid as a remitting-relapsing disease. I spoke to long-haulers who have experienced temporary relief or recovery to try to understand what we know (and don't) about the rate of recovery for this disease: clearhealthcosts.com/blog/2023/11...

The Long COVID Survival Guide won the Gold in Foreword Indies Health Category last week! Congrats to all involved! Sad this book is still so relevant (and one of too few vetted resources), but grateful for the recognition 💛

Remember that nonsense in the NYTimes about how science must no longer be a meritocracy because PNAS rejected a (very poor) paper titled "In defense of merit in science"?

No? That's ok. It wasn't memorable.

In any case, my letter to the editor about it was just published.

Massive, massive win for transgender people out of my birth state of Louisiana.

Louisiana becomes only the 3rd red state to beat back a total gender affirming care ban for trans teens.

Activists there should be truly proud. This was not an easy task.

Louisiana will be an oasis:

On both COVID and climate, the rich and the powerful want you to think that nothing more can be done. That this is as good as it gets. Lies. We have many solutions. But we need to fight for them!
