So.

It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year.

I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

🚨 They're at it again: A new study claims air purifiers and ventilation might INCREASE transmission risk. But it's built on bad assumptions and misleading framing.

Let’s break it down so you don’t get fooled. 🧵👇

4. As such, a relatively low-cost intervention to reduce pressure on the system is to reduce airborne nosocomial infections. High-quality HEPA should be running at all times in all hospital areas, and FFP2 minimum required for all staff.

We should know this by now.

3. If a patient acquires Covid-19 in hospital, especially in the context of a co-infection with influenza, it is likely that their hospital stay will be longer than if they had not acquired Covid-19. The same principle holds for any airborne nosocomial infection.

4. This is simple stuff. HEPA in all public spaces, encouraging masking when visiting the elderly or vulnerable (especially when visiting care or nursing homes), and staying home when unwell.

There is no question people here are dying who otherwise would not have.

This is really disappointing- only 41.8% of eligible people have taken up the offer of an RSV vaccine! London has the lowest take up- 34.2%. Takeup in some ethnic groups such as S Asian as low as 14.3%- this clearly stores MUCH more work needed to communicate about this vaccine & its benefits 🧪
