I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?
Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

I've always felt that Johnson and Farage put self-interest over the national interest - hence their dallying with Putin and his oligarchs. But directly colluding with a foreign government to take down the BBC feels like an act of supreme treachery

Disrespectful, whiny, cringy. Wants to sue everyone who doesn't suck up to him. Such a fragile and weak leader.
President Trump criticises France and others for celebrating remembrance day, saying, "We're the one that won the wars"
Surreal, and so very disrespectful to every person who fought in the wars for the freedoms we all enjoy today

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

This moment says everything about why Zohran Mamdani won.
A journalist in a wheelchair asked about accessibility and Mamdani didn’t talk down to him, didn’t deflect, didn’t politicize it. He listened.
He’s the kind of leader who respects everyone, every faith, every class, every flag.

There’s also Quinn Harberl, a blind protester in Portland who they dragged by his feet.
Multiple agents grabbed the 4 foot 6 man and dragged him, nearly smashing his head into the ground

They pick on the weak.
They pick on the vulnerable.
They want it to look like an intimidating show of force.
There’s also something more nefarious behind it…. Which is that they’re counting on society to not care if a disabled person gets *more* disabled.
We need you to care.

“I think they wanted to make a point,” said Quinn Haberl, who is 4-foot-6 and legally blind. “So they picked the weakest person they could find and made a big show out of it.”

ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”
He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care
This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person
They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.
It doesn't have to be this way.

We seem to have collectively decided to disregard the fact that the US President, assisted by Elon Musk, is responsible for hundreds of thousands of avoidable deaths, a number that will grow over time. But hey, "one trillion dollars" www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

When I was first elected, evidence showed it would take 193 years to bring London's air pollution within legal limits.
Due to our policies, we've done it in 9.
In Brazil this week, we showed that cities are giving the world reason to hope when it comes to tackling the climate emergency.

That WW2 veteran who says that winning the war "wasn't worth it" for the state we are now in is just plain wrong.
Naziism was an evil that caused the deaths of millions and the systematic murder of millions more. Defeating it was necessary.
We need to stop treating every old person as a holy sage.

Surely the democrats are going to have to run on dismantling ICE and prosecuting these crimes. It is clear that the whole system is cruel and corrupt (with the number of citizens being abducted, deportations of green card holder and people legally in America). The rest of the world is watching.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.
