I always go cover -> title -> blurb -> peek inside.
Genuine illustrated covers always get me to stop - filigree and random junk is an immediate skip.
With the blurb and peek, I need the main character's personality, the general plot (don't spoil everything!), and the author's writing style.

I think we should talk about what actually DOES make us buy a book. Reply or repost with things you like to see in the marketing [largely copy/graphics] for a book.
For me, I like to know the demographic/genre + the problem/questions the book is going to tackle. I want the answer remain a mystery.

Funny how easy it is to write and create all sorts of stories, then when I think about trying to promote my work I want to hide under a rock.

I really wish I didn't see so many AI book covers nowadays. It's not very convincing, when I'm looking for something new to read.
There's plenty of artists out there for a variety of budgets. It takes time to find the right one, sure, but it's really worth it.

Also here's a pattern that I've found that works for me before I retreat into my hole to work for the day:
First, acknowledge the thing, even if it scares you
Have the feelings about it, try not to spiral, but let them happen
