Hi, #booksky! I’m a Filipina book lover, based in the Philippines, but reading primarily in English. Hoping to find other Philippine or SEA readers here as well! (As an aside, I also work for one of the large US pubs. I ensure that as many of our books as possible are found in SEA bookstores.)
Foundryside kind-of review (more a reading journal), on the blog. Still trying to figure out what to do with the blog. #TeamPRH

I figure that the only way blogging right now will work for me is if I just do it for myself.

@charlesatan.bsky.social was right: I’ll be finishing all the English volumes of the Apothecary Diaries light novel this week. I’m down to LN 14 & 15. Honestly curious what my withdrawal symptoms will be like when I’m done.

Loopy feels everything is her responsibility, Pedro feels everything is his fault, & Ao Shen, who has everything, just feels bored. Their lives collide when they inadvertently rescue the Cicatriz—a scarred young girl who turns out to be an escaped shapeshifting galactic weapon of war #DVPit #MG #SFF

Love this, Adan & Feli! Also, as someone who read the early version, you should totally get representation!
A Mexican x Chinese inspired 🚀adventure where three lonely children must fight a ruthless bounty hunter, outsmart a galactic corporation, & stop squabbling in time to save the Cicatariz, a shapeshifting, sentient weapon disguised as a young girl—all before their parents find out. #DVPit #MG #SFF

Picking up where I left off in EMPIRE OF AI, and I just keep thinking, the whole world is Omelas, and instead of a child being sacrificed to suffering, it’s whole communities or countries.

Proud of the flotilla, everyone did a great job quickly responding to the attack.

I definitely get why the boats stay spread out. How pathetic is it to bomb a ship SO far away from Israeli territory in the middle of the night?

Ok, Apothecary Diaries is nice and I will likely get into the LNs bec I need to know the rest of the story, but it is also, um, slow. So fine, I shall be watching the show with the chainsaw coming out of a guy’s head.

After around an hour addressing my inbox post-2 week sales trip, I’m happy to report that I’ve gotten the unread emails down to the 500s.😂

Have read all existing chapters of Dandadan, which means I’ve voluntarily subjected myself to the torture of waiting for a new chapter every week. Yay, me.

Missed a PO for a key title, so now am quite upset with myself because it might arrive late.😔

I just got onto the Dandadan bandwagon, and I’m only 80+ issues in, but I have to say, the Evil Eye/Jiji arc is an amazing allegory for creating a kind society for PWDs.

When you want to conduct a genocide without people seeing what you're doing, you kill all the journalists. That's exactly what Israel is doing. They just murdered 5 Al-Jazeera journalists living in a tent next to al-Shifa hospital.

This last week, I find I have a day to finish a book before some deadline. You’d think that would result in a lot of books read in this month, yes? No, it does not.😂

I may have confirmation that I’m a cool mom. My son’s gf apparently checked out my Spotify lists (wc I honestly didn’t know you cld do), & has told my son that my musical taste is cooler than his. Yay, me.😄 On a side note, they are also offering to help me move my playlists to Apple Music.

For today, being a supportive wife means explaining what “slutty little glasses” are to hubby and sending him pics of Jonathan Bailey in them, so that he doesn’t feel too bad about having to wear his own glasses.

Something about the way LLMs build in the idea that to find something out, you shouldn't read an already existing text that other people have also read (ew!); you should get fresh text generated just for you. Each time, new disposable text.

It's been my experience that many of the people who denigrate any sort of genre writing don't read much or any of it, or if they ever did, it was decades ago. It's easy to minimize what you don't read, in a market segment you don't know how to address, with an audience you won't deign to approach.
I sometimes wonder if folks who see the tropes of a genre think that makes it easier because you "just have to fill in the blanks". They don't realize that tropes are mazes that require a deft touch to navigate and build around rather than a mad lib formula for easy completion. Just a guess
