#dgfa2025 somewhat live from Siegen where the great Keynote by @profgabrielle.bsky.social revived my very tired & very overheated brain & had me furiously taking notes. The amazing work done by the Colored Conventions Project & Prof. Foreman's talk today made me think of two very specific things. 1

Tik tok commenter: Covid vaccines cause turbo cancers and hospitals murdered people by ventilating them and exploding their longs.

Me: You need help. This level of paranoia and conspiracy theory mindset isn't healthy. Seek therapy.

Tiktok: comment removed. Stop bullying ppl.
I am so done!

Parts of my current research includes the US eugenics movement. It is eerie how certain discourses keep repeating themselves. Humanities research is vital.
Look, I love these sites & I get how politics works & why they're doing it, but every single one makes exactly the same error universities have been making for years:

Research DOES NOT JUST MEAN STEM.

Look around. If you think we also don't need social science & humanities research, look harder.
Northwestern has a great new website explaining why the federally-funded research we do benefits everybody: www.northwestern.edu/research-nu/...

The UK Supreme Court basically declared all cis women are essentially just our uteruses today and the foolish bigots who are celebrating this are so far removed from reality that they don’t realise how this will be weaponised against us all.

I don't care about what a legal definition of anything is. Transmen are men, transwomen are women. You are valid, wanted, and cherished. 🏳️‍⚧️ #transrightsarehumanrights

There might come days where I won't agree with or like Cory Booker... but what a man! 👏👏👏 John Lewis would have been cheering him on.

How do we preserve lost histories? Swilk’s installation at the Internet Archive made the digital physical. Textiles pulsed & breathed when users accessed archived HIV/AIDS resources, many altered or gone from the live web.

Being an international researcher from ME is hearing:
1. "It's lucky that you are here now" when your country is going through stuff.
2. "Maybe you can stay here if you find a German husband".
3. "You don't look Iranian so they probably won't bother you".

I am really struggling with getting work done recently. It is Norooz on Thursday, so I tell myself that's the reason. You know, like I should have a break but I really don't so... But I think it's a bit more than that. It is just hard to work with no specific end in sight. 1

Certain things make you re-evaluate yourself and your character more actively. This applying to jobs and postdocs and the subsequent wait era of my life has made me realize that I am not very patient and that I may or may not have a little Veruca Salt in me. 😁

An academic trip through time. First pic 2017, I'd just started reading secondary sources for my thesis. Second Pic: today, reading for a postdoc project that will hopefully happen.
A lot has changed... i.e., my folder color. 😁 So this is an homage to the journey. 1
