Honestly, it's wild to watch the nutrition community continue to get behind a term like UPF (defined by looking at a ingredients and giving a 'bad' label by the presence of an 'industrial' additive) while this exact, scientifically hollow tactic is being rolled out to scare folks away from vaccines.

I'm concerned that this Lancet series on UPFs has been led by a narrow group of popular book authors who've already made up their minds on the harms of processing.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Did we learn anything of practical value?

This field appears to feed on itself -- I applied clocks, I found associations, therefore clocks show associations, therefore more clocks.

Getting out of this loop would involve understanding what clocks mean.
Semaglutide Slows Epigenetic Aging in People with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy: Evidence from a Randomized Controlled Trial
Semaglutide is a once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist that has been proposed as a gerotherapeutic, yet no data exist on its effects on epigenetic aging. We therefore conducted a post-hoc epigenetic anal...

I fail to understand the value of using epigenetic aging clocks in any situation.

They are being correlated with...stuff. Name the exposure/condition, someone will find a perturbation in one of today's many epigenetic aging clocks.

More expensive and less meaningful than a fortune telling machine.

I've put a few #Rstats function's I've used over the years into two R packages - feel free to use:

{lukesRlib} useful for working with test statistics (eg "extreme p-vals"), tidying model output, performing PheWAS, etc

{gwasRtools} determine loci (distance or LD), get nearest gene

The strain on scientific publishing 📄:

We've got issues. Scientists overwhelmed, editors overworked, constant special issue invites, mass article retractions, journal delistings… JUST WHAT IS GOING ON!?
