Energy Facts, Analysis, and Policy. Associate Director at the National Academies Board on Energy and Environmental Systems. I used to have hobbies, now I have kids. That was meant to be funny, so adding an exclamation point/emoji so you get the vibe! 😁
My kids are obsessed with the bus because I love buses. I love buses because my mom taught me how to ride the great little system in our home town: www.nytimes.com/2025/11/18/c...

Amidst the chaos and the law-breaking the most important thing to remember/focus on is that they are doing these things illegally because they know they don't have the votes to do it by passing laws, even in a GOP controlled Congress.

Trans people out there living their lives have never been a threat to me. In contrast, like most women, I’ve been harassed or assaulted by plenty of “regular” men. I don’t need protection from trans people, and quit invoking my and my daughter’s “defense” to persecute people for who they are.
BREAKING — I'm told OPM just sent out this memo with guidance for implementing Trump's "Defending Women" anti-trans executive order.

"Take down all outward facing media that inculcate or promote gender ideology. Review email systems and turn off features that prompt users for their pronouns."

Federal grants and loans pay for medical and scientific research, for companies to build infrastructure, for social services that help people recover from disasters and get on their feet. People want these things in their communities.
NEW — OMB temporarily pauses all agency grants and loans programs.

Per copy of memo: "The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve."

Hi #energysky! 🌡️🔌💡Our gas heating/hot water Navien has failed (+gas leak 😩), so emergently fast forwarding our electric space/water heating plans! Taking any recs on #heatpumps / systems considerations! Current system heated water with gas, producing DHW directly/heat exchanges to space heating.

In 2022, @nationalacademies.org published a study on the pollution from fire at the wildland urban interface & health impacts. It has recommendations for fire & exposure prevention and protection. Wear an N95 if you can. Summary w/ link to the full report: nap.nationalacademies.org/resource/264...

can confirm

breathing that shit is not good for you

N95 helps. so does a cheap homemade air filter: tape a MERV-13 square duct filter to the back of a standard size box fan. not HEPA level but it helps a lot!

use 4 filters to make a cube shape and you’ve got a Corsi-Rosenthal box

On my way to #TRBAM ... got my snow boots and my calendar export. Looking forward to seeing folks in energy, air quality, and climate! Glad I can take Metro from the airport and looking forward to a snowy trudge to the Convention Center tomorrow, though I'll be missing my CaBi rides on this trip!

Some great insights on the clean energy transition happening in this workshop, which is on zoom. Nat Bullard just called hydrogen part of “the molecular industrial complex”. Coming up at the top of the hour is a panel including the visionary Dr. Heather Boushey, the CEA Member helping lead this.
Looks like a great agenda on the macroeconomics of decarbonization, with an online attendance option
I'm presenting at the National Academies Roundtable on Macroeconomic Implications of Decarbonization Policies and Actions tomorrow. tl;dr there's climate physical risks and transition risks but need new systems research to identify and overcome barriers www.nationalacademies.org/event/42625_...
