wait sorry, somehow I just learned the London Calling album cover was riffing on this Elvis album cover? sharing in case anyone else is in today’s lucky 10,000 on this.

In the span of four days, my dog has gone from not knowing that donut holes exist, to wondering how I could dare to offer her anything other than glazed blueberry.

Abruptly the light has now stopped working at night 🙃
In what I think is a new development, the light in my mudroom simply will not go on during the daytime? After dark, lights up fine (but only when I flip the switch, not automatically), but will not go on during the daytime, regardless of switch flipping.

This is, of course, a fascinating thread from Kate asking why Google is effectively cannibalizing its own market for both digital ads on third party properties and search ads, by effectively taking away the incentive to click through to third party sites. I have a theory as to why they're doing it.
So this ad revenue metric is indicative of such a fascinating and weird set of business decisions by Google to inexplicably kill of SEO-- and I honestly don't get how they think this is going to pay off for them in the long run.

recipient and subject line fields should be below the body of the email, why is it not like this???
pro tip: when working on email drafts, just leave the subject blank - you’ll probably get an alert if you try to send it with no subject, but you won’t get an alert if you have placeholder words like “DRAFT:”

Years ago I was listening to a podcast and the guest said he thought that our grandchildren would be shocked that we slept and ate food, because they would simply take a pill for both. He was happy about this! To not “waste the time,” I guess?

Never related to a person less.
I know culturally we like to brag about how little sleep we've had.

I've reached the age where I openly will text friends shit like "Slept 9 hours last night and slept so hard I didn't even get up to pee" like it's a crowning achievement, which it is.

An extra fun thing about my dog having cancer is that the guy I was seeing lives basically across the street from her vet, and now when I take her in for her miracle science clinical trial treatments, I get to think about how he broke up with me via text the week she had her leg amputated!

I really cannot stress enough how unpleasant this is. Like having toddler jam hands but it’s a mix of peanut butter and wet dog food and kibble. But at least she finally ate all the kibble! Sitting on the couch like royalty being fed grapes.
My dog’s fun new post-amputation behavior is that while she is absolutely capable of eating from her bowl, she has also learned that if she holds out long enough, I will hand feed her out of desperation, and this, for some reason, is preferable.

my dog got into a clinical trial where they’re going to make a vaccine out of her bone tumor so her body hopefully learns how to fight her cancer???
What’s the highlight of your week so far?

This was easier to address than I feared, sorry to the mouse for basically turning my washer into an oubliette 😬
Nothing quite like knowing that in addition to the usual tasks awaiting me after a week away from home, I also need to figure out how to get a dead mouse out of the washing machine.

good morning from my doctor’s office where a man is watching a video on his phone about someone getting bitten by a snake, full volume, no headphones, middle of the waiting room.

Well it’s Tuesday and I’m having ice cream for dinner and blasting Pet Sounds about it so that’s probably a great sign for the rest of this week
