as an elder millennial i have grown up with school shootings as a backdrop to my daily life, beginning with watching columbine live from my HS computer lab and imagining how i’d escape it. my antipathy to guns is unmeasurable, and i know i’m not alone. and yet by these measures, i am the extremist?
I wish Ezra had provided the evidence that the Democratic Party has moved “sharply left” on this laundry list of issues. To take one example, they pitched the IRA as a climate bill but also as a way of rebooting manufacturing, particularly in red states. And how have they moved left on “guns”?

VARNEY: Trump announced all trade talks with Canada have been cut off because of a fake ad showing Reagan badmouthing tariffs.
HASSETT: The president I'm sure has his reasons. Sometimes when you're frustrated a timeout is the right call. It's probably a good time to take a break.

it’s gotta be Mark Proksch playing this guy in the movie about their downfall - would be oscar worthy
Anomie in modern society is often accompanied by a deep desire for Twilight Override by #jefftweedy of #wilco . The band is touring now. Catch a show and get some hope and distraction!

the best summary of my alienation from modern society is i can no longer easily tell the difference between a bit and a bot

you'd think a prominent news outlet like the New York Times might mention that "antifa" isn't an actual organization in a long story about antifa, but nope!
and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate

seems like a good time to point out that “antifa” is an accepted word in the NYT spelling bee game
Rubio previews Trump's UN speech: "POTUS will point to his own history with the UN going back to his time as a developer. He actually offered to fix the UN building & instead they decided to go in a different direction, wasted a bunch of money ... it's emblematic of how feckless the UN has become"

bwahaha Rubio checking in from the back of the human centipede
with kirk getting so much adoration and screen time, now would be a great opportunity for a reporter to ask trump what he really thought of the guy, and wait for the blank derision he cannot ever withhold when talking about someone who’s no longer of use to him

Yesterday Fresh Air did an interview with Robert Draper, who has covered Charlie Kirk. And this section on Draper's relationship with Kirk said a lot to me about modern access journalism, and the soft coverage we've seen in the wake of Kirk's death.

The Floyd protests I went to were easily the most demonstrative examples of mutual aid, community health, and masking as responsibility, as anything else I encountered in 2020. thats pretty obvious to anyone who engaged with these protests, which does beg the question of whether Drezner went to one?
But -- and this is where I think Silver has a point -- Covid broke a lot of people temporarily. The public health folks saying the George Floyd protests were totes cool were also way outside their lane. I agree that Silver has overreacted to a lot, but this overstep was also real.

Immigrants are a social good, anti-immigrant propaganda is basically all lies, and any approach to the "problem" that doesn't start form those two points is worthless

wild that this sentiment has gone from “Median AP government final essay thesis” to “zealously hardline stance” in what…a dozen years?
sowing division between progressives and center left dems was such a winning strategy in 2024 we should definitely keep creating fake drama over the most nothingburger comments, brilliant strategy mate.

seems like a good a time as any to cite my anecdotal cis white guy evidence of living in DC for four years without having one finger laid on me, if you don’t count the one jealous ex-bf

This is not true, a Real Smoker Movie designation is only given to a movie whose cigarettes smoked given a film's runtime equates to an average of 1 cigarette every 5 minutes. Vibes are not quantifiable and mean nothing to me.
it’s funny, i spent the whole movie trying to suss out the allegory, which i concluded was a generic occident/orient split (the news reports refer to it as eastern european, but the jarhanpur villagers look kinda Pashtun?) then in the car afterwards my kid goes “so boravia was the israel right?” lol
