Councilman Bunch has long been an expert and advocate for transit and mobility access for all Kansas Citians. He will serve us well. Three Kansas Citians serve on the KCATA board, which comprises 10 total individuals from metro counties in Missouri and Kansas.

Honored to get this appointment and very excited to get to work. As a local legislator and a regular public transit rider, I will bring a unique perspective to the KCATA board of commissioners.
Reliable and efficient transit is a vital service for our community. I have appointed Councilman Eric Bunch to the seat representing the 320,00 Kansas Citians south of the river on the KCATA Board of Commissioners to ensure a sustainable system with strong service delivery for all.

The city is now attempting to knit the once-thriving community back together.

It wouldn’t be social media if I didn’t brag about my kids occasionally. Here is one of our 8 year olds crushing this really steep overhang where she can’t even reach the footholds because she’s too short. Didn’t get the send this time but figured out the beta.

Really proud to serve on this council with such thoughtful folks.

Oh 💯 My primary transportation mode is our public e-bike share fleet! The unexpected benefit for me (vs commuting on my acoustic bikes for the precious 15 years) was the ability to zip around in the heat of the summer while wearing a suit. Truly a game changer for so many folks.

As a resident of a very hilly city (nobody roll your eyes, Kansas City has legit hills) I would not resist the idea of some escalators or one of those things you can put your foot on to roll you and your bike uphill.

I can’t get around much at all right now because I sprained an ankle bouldering. So I feel this in my bones, literally.

Yeah maintenance issues and not really an ADA accommodation because they aren’t that accessible. The building in the picture would require an elevator and/or accessible ramps which are far more inclusive. But still, my original reply was punching down and inadvertently ableist. Thanks for the nudge.

Of course! And my apologies for coming off as ableist. Escalators can certainly improve accessibility in addition to elevators and ramps.

KC friends, is there any kind of YIMBY group or other organizing force working to increase housing here? Or is it all decentralized neighborhoods groups and individuals?

Elon Musk is what happens when you create a society that believes technology can achieve anything and collective action can achieve nothing
kinda funny that all it took to defeat traffic in the most crowded city in the country was only a simple $9 congestion relief zone

A Tesla thinking a train is maybe just a line of cars is the most Tesla thing I can think of.
this is so good. this is so so so good. i'm running around my office screaming the lev manovich quote about how software is ideology
lol, a clip of a Tesla's vision system trying to understand a train

Haha I realized after I replied that you likely weren’t referring to that specific street example. Sorry for the confusion!

And I think the most salient point to be gleaned is Democrats lose elections, not on the left-right fault lines, rather we lack convictions in our positions and voters lose confidence in us.
AOC remains one of a handful of elected democrats who understand how politics operates
AOC on the Dem strategy against the trans sports bill today, where they argued it would protect "predators," and ended up losing just 2 Trump-district Dems on it:

"Oh, but this just shows the nerdy, detail-obsessed nature of Japanese people," you say. Perhaps. But these publications can't exist without a distribution system (i.e., newsstands). And those newsstands can't exist without *dense walkable neighborhoods.*

Yeah I’ve thought of that but that specific street is like 28’ wide curb to curb so probably not practical in the example shown in that picture but I’m all for snow road diets on our 4 lane streets! I’ll add that to the list of ideas!

“Sir, this is an Arby’s.”
January 14, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Yeah some of these piles blocking sidewalks are 10’ tall. They will be there until spring if left on their own.
January 14, 2025 at 3:35 PM
Legally, adjacent property owner is required to clear the sidewalk and corner ADA ramps But the offending snow pile in this case was from plowing and is right at the curb, so unclear. I’m connecting with transit authority to find out what their general practice is at accessible bus stops.

I’m sitting here in my warm office with my heart rate elevated watching/listening to this. I know this sound well! And I know how white my knuckles get riding in that! Hope you made it to your destination safely!

Same for north of of plaza as well.
January 14, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Just had to help a mom carry her double stroller through this snowbank so we could go out into the street to catch the bus. Another person had to help her older kid climb over a 3’ tall pile to catch a school bus.

We have to do better.
