Age-related or otherwise (ahem, @fetterman.senate.gov), we have too many congressional seats occupied by people who are not equipped to understand the issues and make decisions.
This Democrat Wants Cognitive Standards in Congress. Her Colleagues Disagree.

We were on bikes so we went from the starting point to the destination on side streets instead of with this crowd, but it was amazing - felt like half the city was there!
This time-lapse video of protesters marching down Broadway in Oakland for No Kings Day gives an idea of how many people turned out today @sfchronicle.com

Scenes from Oakland - an hour and a half after leaving a plaza less than a mile away, the full crowd still hasn't arrived at Ogawa plaza because we are HERE for this

It must be so exhausting being @warren.senate.gov - always right, rarely heeded, the Cassandra of the US Senate.
Well gee I wonder who we should believe when it comes to protecting consumers
During the vote, top bill backer Kirsten Gillibrand and chief opponent Elizabeth Warren got into a heated argument. Warren strongly believes this will pave the way for corruption, risk the stability of the financial system and allow more criming. Gillibrand argues this bill will protect consumers.

My aunt in Spain sent me her paella recipe and included the instructions "rest 5-10 minutes under a newspaper - must be left wing." So of course I used my print edition of @theonion.com, the last bastion of liberal thought available in newsprint form in the US!

@bsky.app would love to be able to add my actual interests (housing policy, bikes, socio-historical analyses of consumption) by editing these!

I did actually know this, which is why whenever I have to buy paper goods or mailing accessories like a packing tape dispenser, I go out of my way to try not to buy their products (not always possible). It's hard to boycott them as an individual, but you can share this with businesses you buy from!
Much of the cardboard and paper goods strewn about our homes are sold by a single private company, with its name, Uline, stamped on the bottom.

Few Americans know that a multibillion-dollar fortune made on those ubiquitous products fuels far-right candidates across the country.

That Cardboard Box in Your Home Is Fueling Election Denial
A previously unreported boom in profits for the shipping supply giant Uline has provided the funds for a deeply conservative Midwestern family to bankroll anti-democracy causes around the country.

March 2025 ENSO update: neutral conditions expected soon
La Niña conditions are waning, and a transition to ENSO-neutral is favored in the next month.

Along with @mcuban.bsky.social, @govpritzker.illinois.gov is doing his best to be an exception to the rule that billionaires are corrupt oligarchs who will get in bed with n*zis just to increase their wealth from obscene to vomit-inducing.

For the first time in several years and maybe only the 5th time since 2000, I skipped the SOTU. I did, however, watch this modern classic 3 times, and I suggest you do the same if you are in need of a palate cleanser.

Taxes will go up for the majority of people, while the cost of living and the likelihood of dying from a preventable illness both go up.
This doesn’t count the increased costs from losing SNAP and Medicare benefits. I can’t believe most voters chose this.

@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social @aoc.bsky.social @replsimon.bsky.social please push your senate colleagues to resist any budget deal - the only move here is to make Republicans own their failure the same way McConnell did to Dems for the past 10+ years

I cannot emphasize this enough: @housedemocrats.bsky.social @senatedemocrats.bsky.social you lost votes in 2024 not because people thought you went too far, but because people who thought you were not willing to do anything stayed home.
If I were a Democrat, and I saw Trump do a purge of high-level generals who were women and people of color and wouldn't be "yes men," I wouldn't vote to advance JD Vance's college friend for Secretary of the Army.

And yet....16 Democrats just did so

When OMB head Russ Vought talks about deliberate efforts to put federal employees "in trauma" and make them quit their jobs, he's talking about people like Michelle, recently fired by Musk/Trump.

A friend who works as an attorney for the federal judiciary told me tonight that they (and their colleagues) have started wearing Star Wars Resistance-themed tshirts under their work clothes on Fridays.

@markhamillofficial.bsky.social any styling recommendations?

I feel like we should be able to put this to the voters as a proposition.

I have historically been really happy as a #tmobile customer for the past 15ish years - the service has been good and the prices reasonable. But if this partnership with #Starlink continues, I will be changing mobile services ASAP. It seems obvious, but I don't do business with Nazis.

Perhaps TFG is in fact creating a jobs program (just not in the way he thinks)! It will almost certainly take thousands of engineers, social workers, lawyers, diplomats, etc to clean up this mess and rebuild our national security and social safety net infrastructure from scratch when he's gone.

We can argue that the election would have gone differently if people had believed Trump when he said what he planned, or that Dems should have been more prepared with a response. But I don't think we can argue against the idea that some things will change permanently (if we ever recover).

A small positive note in the face of overwhelmingly bad news for the fight against climate change: I've officially joined the @bart.gov Bicycle Advisory Task Force to help make it easier and safer for cyclists to navigate the Bay Area!
