This is sad - but as a cat lover, I think it's important to note that the lifespan of any cat allowed outside is going to be notably shorter (3-5 yrs) than an indoor cat (12-18 yrs) in any circumstances. Private cars & rideshare kill cats every day in SF, we haven't banned those.

Waymo is much better for cyclists than any human driver; they don't get sleepy or aggressive or look at their phones. Pricing is more reflective of reality than rideshare; early cheap uber prices were subsidized by VCs.

(Disclosure: I work for Google but not Waymo + ran safety research for Uber)

Too often, designers (& UXRs) get stuck on "this is our magical process" vs "this is the shared outcome we are all contributing to." Once you stop being precious about methods, it's easier to be a partner; that is how you build the trust that enables influence over the choices organizations make.

Why doesn't it apply to El Cerrito? There are 2 BART stations there.

It's ok to just want to live someplace where you can be friends with people who do the cool things and tell you about them

I think Finland is basically all granite under a thin layer of soil, so acquisition and transport costs are relatively low - they even use decomposed granite instead of salt to manage street ice in the winter

I am holding out for the folding one because that is only supposed to be 5.5" (iPhone 10 size) when folded, which means it will actually fit in my pocket or a cute little purse

There's also a basic ergonomic factor - I can barely hold a Pro version of anything

When I was pregnant in 2020, SF public parks had the most reliable clean bathrooms of anywhere I went (and I had to go to a lot of bathrooms).

You should really be getting her Honey Butter Fried Chicken instead

Somehow, when I first heard this story I didn't expect the hero to be a white bro wearing a pink polo & khaki shorts.

you'd be better off with the @oaklandballers.bsky.social on a Saturday afternoon

Exactly what I came here to say - my 4yo will dismiss anything he doesn't like by saying "that's not silly."

There is no street in Rockridge that offers half the danger to pedestrians (and other drivers/cyclists) as any 4 block stretch of Adeline or Market in West Oakland

Also the Chilean version, if you speak any Spanish at all

True! But it's also super cheap sugar, which made it easier to add to ultra-processed foods in order to make them more palatable & extend their shelf life, which in turn encourages more calorie intake + consumption of less nutritious food. Some junk is ok (and fun!) to eat, all junk diet is not ok.

My 4yo loves sushi (+Japanese in general - fave is tamogoyaki), also sardines (but only the fancy $5/can Portuguese ones). But he's also happy with a hot dog or mac & cheese on the rare occasions he gets the boxed stuff. I think the lesson here is that kids are open to more than most parents expect!

If you have a toddler who likes trains as much as mine, highly recommend the polar express train out of the California railroad museum (membership is cheap and members get early access)

love that Tilden train - have you been on it when they have the holiday decorations up?

Oh man, I remember the Gmail invite frenzy! Someone wrote me a haiku! Somebody else spelled out a message in Cheerios for me (I think it was in honor of my then-boyfriend). I can't even remember the message boards where people found me to offer these things in early 2004 . . .

Yes, I can double check when I go tonight if you want. You should also check world market, they have a range of packaged foods from Europe.

My favorite version of this is "oh, I could see myself taking this camping". Follow up question: "how often do you go camping?" (Answers inevitably range from once in 3+ years to never)
