Pleased to hear @sarahdykeld.bsky.social highlight that recent floods are a symptom of climate change, citing the Environment Agency’s projection of a 90% rise in properties at risk from river and coastal flooding by the 2080s #flooding🌍🌧️

We’re supporting The Big Plastic Count!

From 9-15 March, thousands of people will be counting all the plastic packaging they throw away for one week.

Calling all MPs: we're asking you to encourage your local schools to take part and to set up a visit (please DM us for support + materials).

🌊 During last Monday's reading of the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Bill, @rozsavage.bsky.social discussed the importance of protecting our local marine environment and working with different countries to end destructive practices like bottom trawling 🌊 #BBNJBill

🏠We need to invest in flood protection now and only build in areas that meet the highest standards if we are to avoid situations like this becoming the norm 🌧️

🌊 The UK is clearly underprepared for the scale of climate impacts 🌧️

Waiting until the next National Adaptation Programme in 2028 is insufficient and the APPG will be campaigning to make the UK more resilient to climate change.

This week, Govt quietly published a 'Global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and national security assessment' after an FOI forced their hand.

It is a deeply concerning read for anyone who cares about our future.
Nature security assessment on global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and national security
This strategic assessment explores how global biodiversity loss and the collapse of critical ecosystems could affect the UK’s resilience, security and prosperity.

🌊 On 17 January, the #HighSeasTreaty will enter into force in a major step for ocean protection.

It will enable:
🌍 Legal frameworks for MPAs
📋 Environmental impact assessments
🤝 An Ocean COP

Next up: swift progress on the UK’s BBNJ Bill is needed to implement these commitments.

Earlier this year we set out six steps to kickstart the circular economy.

Critical minerals are an obvious step: they are crucial for resilience, the UK’s geological reserves are highly limited, and their supply chains are often destructive.

At last week's COP30 debate, @pippaheylings.bsky.social reminded us that COP30 was the first climate summit to be held since the world surpassed 1.5°C of warming 🌡️

This has driven more extreme weather events ⛈️, threatened crop yields and incomes🌾and put our local environments at risk 🌍

🌍Huge thanks to @islamicreliefuk.bsky.social for hosting yesterday’s panel event with us!🌍

How can we get high streets buzzing, foster local pride & deliver resilient growth across the UK?

Building a circular economy is the answer ♻️

Ahead of govt's Circular Economy Strategy, @werahobhouse.org.uk & @relondon.bsky.social hosted businesses and community projects championing this agenda

🌍It was fantastic to see so many of our supporters at last Thursday’s #BBNJ Bill second reading! @sarahchampionmp.bsky.social reminds us that a rise in global temperatures from 1.5C to 2C takes coral reef loss from 70% to a devastating 99%🪸

🌍Great to hear from several Environment APPG supporters in a recent debate on the Global Plastics Treaty♻️

Baroness Cleveden asked the government what their plans are to tackle the UK’s own high levels of plastic waste, much of which is exported to other countries.

At our Planning & Infrastructure Bill roundtable yesterday, MPs & Peers heard how recent government amendments are a positive step for nature.
But more can be done to protect species while meeting housing targets. Clearer rules can also speed up development and cut costs for business.

Our circular economy report, featuring in @theecologist.org, calls on govt to tackle overconsumption & boost the right to repair. This would:

🏭 Revive industry
🌍 Cut pollution & create green jobs
💷 Unlock £25bn for the UK economy

👉 theecologist.org/2025/jul/24/...
Right to repair 'would reduce inequality'
Will the government’s upcoming circular economy strategy consider a right to repair and overconsumption?
