Easeful, thoughtful, near-ridiculously handsome, Robert Redford was a bona fide star. He worked well with others, not least Jane Fonda, Paul Newman, Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman. At his absolute best he had an exceptionally light touch: see Barefoot in the Park or All The President’s Men. RIP

Polly Holliday has passed away at 88. From Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway to sitcoms, she gave us from Alice one of TV’s greatest catchphrases: “Kiss my grits!” Sad news, but what a fun, fiery legacy.
