After five stressful days (four presales and a general sale) we managed to secure five tickets to see System of a Down. Almost failed thanks to dynamic pricing and Ticketmaster glitches but it's our favourite band and our 40th birthday presents to one another so very glad our determination paid off!

Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all:

“If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.”

Israel just killed him.

Emergency Alert day has been confirmed as 7th September. If you have a secret phone for safety go to settings and turn off all government notifications. Setting it to silent or airplane is not enough 🚨 (guidance on each step is on the internet). Spread the word

We're having a frustrating time recruiting for focus groups at the moment. 99% of sign ups are clearly not real people! Weird email addresses, no online profile whatsoever etc. Is this affecting anyone else?

I am really saddened by the level of vitriol and hatred being directed toward the trans community.

We are losing our common humanity. How hard is it to treat people with kindness and respect?

Trans people are human beings — and they deserve to live in dignity like anyone else.

🚀 Exciting news! We've been awarded AHRC Follow-on Funding! 🚀

Partnering with UKHSA, we’ll evaluate the 'Why We Get Vaccinated' campaign, bringing linguistic research into public health messaging.

I really enjoyed working with the Patient Information Forum on this survey analysis. It was so refreshing to hear positive experiences of health communications from patients. Health charities do more than just inform patients—they help them to feel less alone.

@uonenglish.bsky.social
Free text responses to the survey were analysed by @emmamcclaughlin.bsky.social from @uonresearch.bsky.social using corpus linguistics.

She found reduced isolation was a theme in 12,000 words of free text comments.
