Also that you don't need a community -- why ask a friend for help with code or grammar or paper suggestions etc when you can just consume this product?
The great scam of genAI is convincing you that you can’t cope without it
You don’t need GenAI to improve your grammar. Seriously. Word processing software has non-GenAI grammar functions for ages. As an English-as-second-language speaker, I can assure you that we don’t need GenAI to write. My writing came out alright.

It's wild to me that the official instructions for getting grades from MSU's course management system to the registrar website involves sorting two spreadsheets, copy-pasting a column from one to the other, and I guess, crossing your fingers it all worked?

This is like 1000 grad student stipends, and I'm sure at least one of them would have won more football games
Yet another reminder that the very best job in this world is failed college football coach.

This makes me feel better about recently trying to convince @johnstinchcombe.bsky.social to take up studying size + resource competition by calling it the "Planthew Effect"
A 🧵 of future eco-evo research plans, based purely on their potential for pun titles.

Please feel free to contribute to this important list - ideally by doing the research and including me as a co-author.

I appreciate that Thanksgiving has always been optional in my family. I still remember my glee the year my parents decided that the 3 of us would just go to Disneyland.
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

Speaking as someone in a newly unionized workplace, Vance is obviously one hundred percent wrong.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

This is so so cool and really neat to see evidence of some of the stuff @milesroberts.bsky.social was thinking about when he started working on non-reference-based pop gen approaches.
Now published in Cell! We found that ~15% of SNPs from divergent refs did not liftover as SNPs in the gray fox ref—half mapped to monomorphic sites, half failed to map. Co-authored with Matthew Genchev, @elliecat.bsky.social, and @jazlynmooney.bsky.social

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
