Why do ants smell so weird? If I squish one with my fingers, my fingers smell like chemicals. (I constantly find little black ants crawling on me bc they get on my dogs outside, and my dogs share the love.)

You know what's nice? Now when I hear the twang of a banjo, my first thought is of Sinners instead of Deliverance.

Today we honor the flippered citizens of our icy nation.

Whether you celebrate whilst eating a democracy sausage in Oz, doomscrolling in America, pulling maple taps in Canada, or elsewhere, we appreciate the support! #worldpenguinday

I'm finally watching Cross, and I just want to revel in how great it is to see DC culture celebrated and to see Aldis Hodge just in general. This was going to be an Aldis Hodge appreciation post, but then the DC montage popped up in the first 10 minutes, and I had to appreciate that, too.

Started reading On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers. I couldn't figure out what was throwing me off, and I finally realized that it's Haiti. I didn't realize Europeans called it Haiti before the revolution. I thought they called it Hispaniola or Saint-Domingue. But maybe it's because they're pirates?

I made the NYT Cooking recipe for whole roasted quash with tomato-ginger chickpeas. We used butternut and acorn squash. Also used vegan Greek yogurt so Dax could eat it. I recommend the butternut squash over the acorn. My store didn't have any kabocha squash, but I'd like to try it sometime.

My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things #Thread

Elwood got a special wrap today so he would quit shaking his head long enough to let his ears heal. Two horrible ear infections and one of his ears was bleeding at the tip because he was shaking his head nonstop. We took the wrap off tonight and he's in a cone. His ear hair growth is ridiculous. 🙁

The other day I happened upon a burning car at a gas station in the minutes between the start of the fire and the arrival of the firefighters. I went back by a few hours later and got a picture of the husk of car leftover.
