A follow-up, mused quietly by a tucked-in and very sleepy three year old as I chill in his room after bedtime:

"... when I was a baby, I couldn't play a guitar solo."
Things I would never in a million years have guessed I would be saying to my three year old:

"Ghost knows the importance of healthy teeth. Papa Emeritus wants you to brush your teeth real good, he told me so."

We’re at the park and there is one little guy here just laying face down on the ground under a bench

Pusch appears to have kept custody of the web address but not the exact wording of the slogan (now appearing as “We Push TO Win,” not quite as good)
When Pusch broke up with Nguyen and hooked up with Wynne, I was curious what would happen to the Brokeback Mountain billboard.

I’m not mad about this.

Because of my atomic starburst fixation eBay is always showing me these funky midcentury pans with embossed textures, and I DO want them, but so far they’ve also all been funky midcentury sizes

This is oddly specific but this guy looks like a new kid at school on Carl the Collector

Speaking of the kid Engaging with Nature, freshly laundered acorn, anyone?

A while ago at a paint-your-own-pottery I painted the Tiniest Vase, on the theory that Willie would be entering the “I picked you a flower” phase before too long, and GUESS WHAT

It’s very sweet that Zack tried to let me sleep in; on the other hand it’s also very sweet that Willie snuck into the bedroom, climbed up on the bed, flopped on me and went “surprise!! I bwing you my disco light to wake you up.”

Willie, listening to Ghost before school while wearing a cape this morning, proceeded to yell "Rock and roll!!", threw the double horns, and then ran into our room to play along on his drums lol

One of Willie’s friends came over to trick-or-treat with us and he came with both parents and an uncle, which seemed like a lot but it turns out 4 adults to 2 toddlers with Trick/Or-Treat Madness is about right actually

There’s a pumpkin decorating contest at the office Halloween party and I’m in it to win it

we finally got a fall front and it's sooooo nice out today but a reminder, I guess, that it's all in your perspective: the other mom who drops off her kid at the same time I do was talking about how freezing cold it was and asked me "does it SNOW here??" with trepidation

my only note on the Aunt Discourse is that in college I worked at a tutoring center where virtually all the other tutors, and all the managers, were Indian and I felt warmly included when my boss asked me to please call her Latha Auntie like everyone else in the building did

by the time I caught up to this post it was too late to comment so I'll tell you guys instead: a couple years ago I reconnected with a college friend I'd lost touch with, and we were talking about a book we both liked, and I had to admit that "my" copy of that book is the one he lent me in 2003

the Great Pottery Throwdown has what seem to be auto-generated speech-to-text closed captions

the theme of this week is the firing technique called “raku”

unhelpful accessibility-wise, but I admit I am charmed by all this discussion of the happy little raccoons that will be firing the pottery

I’m at a craft guild sale and someone just asked “have you seen Marian?” and the guild lady replied “Marian Smith, Marian Sullivan, or Marian Johnson?” in case you were wondering about the weaving guild demographics

there's a rankings survey we participate in that sends out a word doc of the survey to use as your draft, which is handy, except the last couple years it's obviously a pdf converted to word and PLEASE, IT IS SO JANKY, HOW DID YOU NOT LOOK AT THIS AND SAY "OH GOD THIS IS TOO JANKY TO SEND TO ANYONE"

I’ve been trying, without much success, to get a photo that captures how pretty this muhly grass is in the morning with the sun just lighting up the tops of its pink feathers

my plea to recipe websites: I understand why you don't want infinite filter options to slice your recipes down to categories of 1 or 2, and it's not that there is no value in knowing that your coleslaw and your lemon bars are vegetarian also, but consider: "vegetarian mains"

hmm. my course schedule query ran overnight and seemed normal EXCEPT that the output is... two sections. of the same course.

It’s nice to know we are providing a welcoming habitat for whatever types of gall wasps these are, I guess

Maybe it’s just that this is a different wasp species or something and I am unfairly slandering them, but this does not seem up to the construction standards I expect from the mud dauber
