A while ago at a paint-your-own-pottery I painted the Tiniest Vase, on the theory that Willie would be entering the “I picked you a flower” phase before too long, and GUESS WHAT

A close-up of the end of a live oak branch with three types of galls - a small, hard, round gall on the back of a leaf, a similar-size fuzzy gall on the back of another leaf, and several large, round, cork-like galls growing off of stems. This tree is in our backyard and it’s absolutely COVERED in these, especially the big ones.

We were big fans of the train! We were less big fans of the train sculpture in town.
A sort of scrap metal assemblage sculpture of a train engine, driven by what looks like a giant Jack in the Box antenna ball? You guys remember those? He has an unsettling smiley face. Everything is rusted. Cheerful lettering in the smoke coming out the smokestack says “Choo-Choo”.

They serve drinks on the train, which goes about 30 miles, then you have lunch and look at some East Texas scenery while they move the engine to the other end, then you go back

We took a vacation to ride the Texas State Railroad

Phantom update: I like Weekday Phantom (in spite of the pacing issues inherent to the medium), but Sunday Phantom is where they really cut loose with the silly stuff

Willie is into watching marble runs and marble machines. When this one came up he said reverently “wow… three hundred marbles.” I think that’s the biggest number he knows about.

My mom and I went to a ceramic workshop and made custom charcuterie trays
An unfired clay tray in the shape of a woman’s torso. There’s a low rim around the edge and dividers across the tray that define the shape of a two-piece swimsuit, and the bikini top and bottom are painted with black stripes to resemble the original Barbie swimsuit.

Willie has got the idea of putting art on the wall
