Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Close Encounters of the Deer Kind
Took nearly a year of daily encounters for them to get this close. I love how the two does mirror each other.

Grudge (not really) against the space program b/c I went to space camp in middle school under the assumption I'd be doing the underwater zero gravity simulation, pool suit and all. The best that happened is we got some Dippin' Dots and went to a roller rink.
Idk I was a kid obsessed with Space rather than Ocean

I love faxing things
My favourite is explaining pagers to children.
‘So you phoned one person. Told them your message. They wrote it down and sent it to the person’s device’
‘How did they respond?’
‘They couldn’t.’

When I was a child my dad once sent me a telegram to wish me luck for a dance show because he was working overseas at the time. (I've still got it tucked away somewhere.) If you think about it, it's incredible how easy international communication has come on in a generation. Who remembers faxes? 🤷♀️😂

I have a f*ing doctorate in epidemiology and I’m still so confused about how to pick a health insurance plan. Open enrollment should not be this hard!

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

So if a president falls asleep, can we just add "Sleepy" in front of their name?

Does anyone else feel at least frustrated because you see the solutions (big and small), you vocalize them, yet other people don't care to want to see/do anything about things?
If so, how do you cope?
It seems I keep finding myself in groups with limited "vision" or motivation to do anything.

Any time I've had the privilege to see a part of the night sky so distinct and clear, I think about how miniscule we are in the universe and the fact I have to share a planet with idiots while paying taxes

I'd probably get smart with Moreno and be like "Hey, I don't know my VIN. Can you please tell me?" or something like that
Instead of Bernie Moreno creepily following us to the cars we use to get to work in the Capitol and writing down their VIN numbers, I'd suggest he use his time in more productive ways …

Another astonishingly mild day for November, with no winds to so much as rustle the leaves.

Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.
But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.
