In January 2019 I tried to end my own life, and came very close to not making it. I’d been abused and raped repeatedly, and didn’t know how to go on. 6 years later, he’s in prison and on the sex offenders register for life, while I’m using my experience to make change for others.

Social media has given women a greater voice, helped us to find community, allowed movements like “me too” to flourish, and assisted with financial independence. But now, they want to take it away from us. X/Twitter is no longer safe for women, and Meta seems set to follow.

The past week we’ve seen men who’ve never seemed to care about violence against women and girls before, suddenly claim they want to protect us. A man who owns a platform notorious for abuse of women, a man whose close ally is a paedophile, a man who’s facing rape charges himself.

In 2020 I finally escaped an abusive relationship and pursued justice for what I’d gone through. While this Christmas hasn’t exactly been stress free (parole proceedings are no fun) I still feel unbelievably grateful for the life I’ve made since then. Merry Christmas! ✨

Absolutely awe inspired by @ellieokwilson.bsky.social on Sky News articulating with absolute clarity on placing the shame and stigma of SA at the door of the perpetrators. Keep going Ellie. 💪

Great to see that calls to rape helplines almost double over the weekend following the verdict of the civil rape case against Conor McGregor.

“I think the trial has resulted in the scales falling off some people’s eyes as to what the victim experience is in an adversarial legal situation,"
Conor McGregor: Nikita Hand case sees rape helpline calls almost double
On Friday, a jury at the High Court in Dublin found the mixed martial arts fighter had assaulted Nikita Hand.

A reminder that it’s rape even if he’s your favourite athlete. It’s rape even if he’s a famous celebrity. It’s rape even if he’s talented. It’s rape even if you found him inspirational. Stop excusing the actions of abusive men just because you admire them.

The thing victim-survivors truly need, more than anything, is a Survivor Fund. Most often than not the biggest obstacle for a survivor to escape is money, specially when they are a minority and or disabled. Education is important, shelter is great, but what survivors truly need is their own money.

Just 2 and a half years ago, I put my rapist behind bars. It was a long and hard fought battle for justice. I’ve now been given a provisional date for his parole hearing - the 19th of December. How can it be that we’re even considering releasing him after such a short time?

The leader of the Conservative Party in Japan has said that women should be banned from marrying after 25, should have their uteruses forcibly removed at 30, and should have their education limited after age 18. Why? To increase the birth rate. What in the Handmaid’s Tale?!

I just found out there’s a trend going round on TikTok of women crying because Mike Tyson lost a boxing match to someone many years his junior, and they “felt bad for him”. Mike Tyson is a convicted rapist. Just because someone’s a woman, it doesn’t make them an ally.

One thing I’ve learned from reporting on abuse and its patterns is that abusers and their enablers respond viciously to people talking about abuse. They don’t want people to learn about and recognize abuse, theirs or otherwise. They don’t want the status quo that benefits abusers to change.

Isn't it interesting that rape apologist are often seen criticizing the victims rather than the rapists themselves.

Dude mad because Ellie Wilson is living her full life and not hiding in a basement forever.

This is my first post on this platform so let me introduce myself. I’m Ellie and I’m a rape survivor who refuses to feel shamed for what happened to me. Instead, I’ve chosen to make my pain my platform and channel my hurt into change. Nice to meet you!
