I'm a very good finder, better known as a librarian.
...I don't go back to work until Tuesday and can't purchase these until then. AUUUUUGH.

I suppose I can figure out which ones we'll be buying and which ones we already have.

So, @papercutzgn.bsky.social is having a Buy 2, Get 1 free sale and SOMEONE STOP ME FROM GETTING ALL OF THESE BOOKS FOR MY LIBRARY.*

*Note: Yes, I buy books for my library with my own money from time to time. I have a noted compulsive book buying addiction. I try to use this vice for good.

Y'all, I'm doing a THING on Thursday, 1/15. As nervous as I am (first professional webinar), I'm excited to present this. I hope youth services librarians & educators attending find it helpful!

Front and rear dashcams are also a really good investment.
And those are limits!

Very rarely do places have posted minimums; you can be as slow as your granny if you want

To be safe
As I was being tailgated down W. River Parkway by a large SUV with tinted windows, the thought occurred to me that it might help if everyone drives a bit slower. Gives observers more time to identify feds.

We have a 20 MPH speed limit on residential streets, let’s weaponize it

Just realizing that in walking distance from our library there're the following foods/cafés: Argentinian, Mexican (x2), Pakistani (x2), Indian (x3), Afghani, Chinese, Japanese, Colombian (x2), Italian, Mediterranean, Persian, & Peruvian, plus the ice cream shop. There's a food passport idea in here.

Patron, Saturday: You can't take so many books, we have to share them with everyone else.

Another patron, Monday: [checks out at least half of our phonics collection, at least forty books]

#Mets fans are truly wonderful (and deserve better than the team we've got right now). Look at this incredible book coming out in March. Yes, I will be foisting it upon my patrons.

New Jersey needs a sprawling conference center that is located in Central Jersey. I don't know where or how, but there are far too many professional conferences in Atlantic City and no. Just no.

Piggybacking/adding an example to this. Some are only looking at the "large" (federal) picture. In my state (NJ), our governor-elect won by double digits w/a turnout 11% higher than the last gubernatorial election, also the highest in ~30 years.
Frustrating hearing “nobody cares” and “Americans are so disengaged”. It’s a disservice to the many, many activists and orgs who are indeed fighting to make things better. Immediate drastic change would be nice, but it’s the consistent work that actually builds longterm change. Help do that work.
Screaming "wtf" and waiting for a spontaneous uprising is going to discourage you. There won't be a spontaneous uprising. That's just not where the people are at.

Organize for the long term. Build community. Build resilience. Have a strategy for whatever corner of this thing you're working on.

Also, people ARE pissed. The media is just not showing it.
Organizing people is much harder than most realize.

Heard an ad for the Audible Harry Potter and I'm mad (for MANY reasons but mostly) because Matthew Macfadyen's voice *almost* got me.

The man needs to narrate more books. I need to go watch Death by Lightning now.

I've got AT LEAST two (double-sided) library carts worth on that front...so I'd go a more practical route and get sworn in on my library card.
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Ok, so I have one 2026 resolution and that’s to post what I read on Bluesky, Litsy, and @bookhive.buzz (which is currently having a time processing my grandiose Goodreads export 😂).

First up, my first intended listen of the year: Scavengers by Kathleen Boland.

Forget wrap-ups, recaps, elongated reflections on 2025. For me, with five exceptions (two weddings, an engagement, a birthday party, and a work-related award), it sucked, sucked badly, and needs to go straight into the bin.

No bar set, no resolutions for 2026. Do it live.

Let’s go.

Why the hell are there so many fireworks in my neighborhood this year? We're a damn condo complex. Stop setting that nonsense off so close to all the structures. There are SO many pets. And some of us just want to start off the year well-rested (that's out the window now).

It is IMPERATIVE for EVERYONE on Bluesky to know that the Empress, Duffy, was named Dawg of the Month at her groomer.

Josh O'Connor and Glenn Close in Wake Up Dead Man took my breath away and that is all.

Wait, no. I would adore a Benoit Blanc mystery set in New Jersey. @rianjohnson.bsky.social, you have an ELITE selection of music to be inspired by: Sinatra, Whitney, Bon Jovi, Bruce...take your pick. Just saying.
