Shout out to the @vidiots.bsky.social rental store crew for telling my son he's the coolest kid who came into the store today after he told them he had just watched GODZILLA V HEDORAH again before coming in to rent THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART.

I feel lucky to be alive during the Michael Cera ascendency.

I don’t think the trailer for THE BRIDE has to sell THE BRIDE as hard as the trailer for THE BRIDE sells THE BRIDE.

PREDATOR: BADLANDS - It’s Cameron’s (speculative) world and we’re all lucky to be living in it.

I don’t mean to diminish what Trachtenberg is doing with the Predator series. It rocks. If you’d told me six years ago I’d ever care 1 iota about this property I’d have LOLed. Give this man an Avatar.

This is me just reveling in the beauty of PTA's cinematography in PHANTOM THREAD while enjoying a cup fo Lapsang Souchong last night.

Really good day for people who care about other people.

Until I was in my twenties David Bowie was only the evil witch lady in that scary Muppet movie.
Ah yes, Sam Neill, Vasily from THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER
I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”

“Yep, that was exactly the right thing.” - my mom at the end of del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN, which we went to see immediately after coming home from my grandmother’s (her mother’s) funeral

Distressingly, the most fantastical scene in FIELD OF DREAMS is the PTA meeting.

I have AKIRA on 4K and it’s great but really the best way to watch AKIRA is on a well-worn bootleg VHS that your best friend steals out of his older brother’s bedroom when you’re spending the night in third grade.

FRANKENSTEIN is literally Guillermo del Toro’s SILENCE.

A ghost, vampires, (not) zombies, and now a Frankenstein’s monster - if there’s one thing 2025 has dialed in it’s horror.

This is my annual post about how what I want most is a season-long, behind-the-scenes doc about the making of a season of The Great British Bake Off: three episodes on the pre-production process; three episodes on the filming of the contest itself; and three episodes on the post-production process.

Future scholars will detect a subtle reference to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in the 2024 Davidson family Christmas letter, dramatically altering their reading of the text.

The submarine sequence is great because one day when I watch it with my kids I’ll be able to say, “This is why we close doors.”

“Take care of my suit.” is a great joke, in part, because it is Tom Cruise acknowledging on camera, subtly, his physical stature.

My daughter is in her Frozen phase so you're gonna get Frozen observations from time to time.

Kristen Bell sings circles around everyone in this movie. Everyone.

My pitch for a Predator movie is Predator+Galaxy Quest/The Three Amigos/Tropic Thunder. A trio of shitty Yautja watches Earth movies and thinks they're real so they abduct action movie stars to help them kill their way into the Yautja elite.

I'm watching M:I - DEAD RECKONING today in anticipation of my blu-ray of M:I - THE FINAL RECKONING arriving tomorrow. I bet Buster Keaton would love knowing that more than a hundred years later filmmakers are still chasing his genius.

Any time you need to feel joy just hit play on Huey Lewis and the News' "The Power of Love" the moment INTERSTELLAR cuts to its end credits.

I like how in his next movie Christopher Nolan is like, "You can get yourself home, Mr. Man."

The only proper way to watch TRON: ARES is for the audience to queue up in the theater rows and slowly take a step or two forward every couple of minutes for the duration of the film. Time it perfectly and you'll reach the exit right as the credits end two hours later.

I wish I could erase my memory of ALIEN and watch it again as if for the first time.

I used to live where ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER was filmed, and my life as a single person devoted solely to my sense of calling climaxed along the road where the film climaxes. Great film; strange movie-watching experience. elijahdavidson.com/one-battle-a...
