Seeing Supes tonight.

I've been thinking about this quote all week. It's like if I visited a church and they said, "Does it really matter how we do the Eucharist?" At this point in my ecclesiology, I think it's probably all that really matters. If you don't do it at all, that also means something.

This is the Magnificent Frigatebird. It just IS a pterodactyl. Insane.

My wife and I went through a many year struggle with infertility, so when we finally had kids, we were older than we wanted. I'm well into my 40s, and I have a two-year-old. Twice in the past week, she has pooped in the bath, so I can say, literally:

The real villain is the person who invented this perpetual motion device and decided to use it only to terrorize small children.

Even if they don't continue to make M:I films, I hope Cruise and McQ continue to work together. I think they've finally worked all the kinks out of their "think of the set pieces first then connect them with story" method. (It's never bothered me, really.) elijahdavidson.com/mission-impo...

Sometimes I'm just in awe of how much skilled artistry is on display in a shot that lasts less than a second. (from AMADEUS, 46:43, stream via MoviesAnywhere of the 4K remaster projected by an Epson 1080p Home Cinema projector)

This is one of the most beautiful shots in all of cinema. (from ROCKY IV, 1:23:25, blu-ray of the 4K remaster projected by an Epson 1080p Home Cinema projector)

Thank you to everyone who sent me recs today. You could all feel what I was feeling - I needed something from a different director & it needed to be something with either a female protagonist or centered on femininity. I think I found the perfect solution. We'll see if we get that deep in the stack.

For my birthday I'm hosting a few dads to play The 11th Movie, a game where I pick 11 films for a group to consider one by one. Only I know the full list. If anyone rejects a film, we go to the next film. No going back. If the group can't agree, we watch the 11th movie. What should my 10th film be?

It always makes me laugh that Cameron one-upped his regular joke about PIRANHA II —"It's the finest flying piranha movie ever made!" – by making THE WAY OF WATER.

After the apocalypse hits I'm going to find out where Soderbergh is holed up and go there. I know he'll still be making movies, and I'll want to see them.

After so many years of living in a context where the spiritual was taken so seriously, it's refreshing to spend time in a narrative world where the spiritual is very real and important but also kind of a joke.
