Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

there is no reward for being a good artist except making the art. hell. for some artist thats not much bc they have bad depression. Art is like transitioning. it wont make you happy but it is inevitable. it wont make you happy but not doing it will kill you

Of all the easy things you can do to help the environment, conserve water for communities not corporations, not perpetuate scams, support the labor and rights of creators... *not* using generative AI is the fucking easiest. You absolutely deserve to be shamed for using it for image and text creation

This is why I find it so funny when people insist AI is "making art accessible". Art is the most accessible thing in the universe, has always been and will always be. Like, people used to sit in their caves and make art with nothing but mud. it doesn't get more accessible than that lol

the funny thing is there are some birds in this book, like the shrike, where the illustrator has clearly fallen back on a fictionalised version of what the bird looks like in his mind's eye.
