In January, I wished for a creative 2025 ✨ A quick mid-year review made me realise I need to push myself outside my comfort zone more 😅
Do you manage to work on your #dataviz goals?
My wishes for a creative new year: 1. More processing/p5.js data viz 2. More data viz with physical objects 3. More data viz consistent with the subject matter (use of icons, images, textures...) 4. Wander further away from data viz specific tools and experiment more Mid-year review: One creative wish out of four implemented (wish number 3). For an area plot and a treemap plot I used images to reflect the causes of deforestation.

One soldier recalls a man on a roof hanging his washing. A tank brigade 700 meters away decided to label him a “spotter” with no evidence of threat, and blew up half the residential tower, killing and injuring many civilians. Another remembers two teenage boys quietly pushing a cart, and Israeli soldiers deciding to shoot one in the head, adding: “If they walk too fast, they’re suspicious. If they walk too slow, they’re suspicious. They’re plotting something… If you want to, you can always find a reason to incriminate someone. It’s pretty simple. Israel uses white phosphorus as part of its ecocide against Lebanon, to render as much of the South as possible unliveable for human beings.

They dynamite entire villages, cause forest fires with drone strikes, uproot countless olive and other trees, and kill the soil.

I used the {ggh4x} package to get this custom facet layout with large chart for global data, and then small multiples for each WHO region 🗺️
