The real news in this article is what Cruise CEO said to @jeffreytumlin.bsky.social which is insane.
For a preview of what's to come from AVs, look to San Francisco.

As ex-SFMTA CEO @jeffreytumlin.bsky.social explained here, affluent people love Waymos. But they muck up transport networks by blocking streets and obstructing transit.

What’s good for individual riders may not be good for the city.
What Robotaxis Brought San Francisco
Outgoing transit agency head Jeffrey Tumlin reflects on how self-driving cars from Waymo, Cruise and Zoox affected the city’s other transportation modes.

(despite the tiny apartments, this is never going to have affordable rent, there's a pool on the roof and that shit costs way too much to maintain. It kinda ruins the whole point of designing this kind of building if you ask me)

Here's a closer look. The northern unit is properly cross-ventilated with two opposing directions of air, the middle one has only street-facing windows, and the southern unit has cross ventilation if you keep the bedroom door open. (Each floor also has a shared rocket shelter, which is standard)

I've never seen this done in TLV before - a 51 stories tower on the back, and an extremely narrow 7 stories apartment building (3 units per floor) facing the street to give it a nicer frontage. The permit combines both in the same plan, and shows the drastically different floor plans side by side

Only Toronto would spend 220 million INT$/km (the cost France or China builds an underground city center metro line) on a tramway that is significantly slower, less frequent and more unreliable than the bus route it replaced.
We raced TTC's Line 6 on a bus and it was so slow we had time to stop for a snack
Toronto's newest transit line debuted on Dec. 7 to brutally bad reviews, and it seems that even a few weeks into service, the TTC has not ironed out …

Toronto making their new light rail signals look identical to traffic signals is deranged, and it's not even universally a Canadian thing. Check out these very MUTCD-lookin' signals in Edmonton (left) compared to the standard variety on SEPTA (right).

It’s insane that within just a few weeks, two of Canada’s major cities opened polar opposite transit systems.

REM - An extension to a high frequency, fast, fully automated metro system

Finch West - A many years late, over budget, disastrously slow light rail line

no one has ever spoken like this about a GoA4 (grade-of-automation four, or no staff on-board and completely automatic) driverless metro

Almost half the Waymos on California streets are driving around empty. They're either waiting for the next customer or en route for a pickup.

If robotaxis scale, anything close to that level of deadheading would create crushing gridlock.

Transit Signal Priority is an umbrella term for multiple strategies that reduce delays for transit vehicles at signalized intersections, potentially down to zero.

Here, I'm comparing the trade-offs between a "French-style" and an "in-phase" TSP strategy, more common in North America.

the other part is that bus drivers often drive more aggressively with frequent aggressive braking and acceleration - rushing to make the light, stopping abruptly because someone pressed the stop button too late, etc. When driving a private car you control the level of aggressiveness

I know someone who has motion sickness on buses and not while driving and I think I can explain it in multiple ways - one, if you're driving you're looking out the windshield at the direction of travel, that in itself already reduces motion sickness quite a bit.

הדבר שהכי מפריע לי בסדרה פלורביוס זה השימוש במטוסי נוסעים ענקיים בשביל להסיע אישה אחת, זה יותר גרוע מטיילור סוויפט
