Hey #historyteacher can you help me decorate my department's classrooms? if anyone has any migration timeline wall displays to share that would be magnificent! Or displays showing key individuals related to migration (KS3 or KS4)?

Following my blog post last week about a love of learning, I have reflected on my first year as a subject lead and the lessons I have learnt.

Learning to Lead: Lessons from My First Year Heading a Department
When I stepped into my new role this year, I knew there would be plenty to learn — but I don’t think I fully appreciated just how many different hats I’d end up wearing. Being a new member of staff in a school is one thing. Taking on a department with an established reputation for high standards and strong results is another.

Teaching is never static.
I’ve reflected on my journey as a teacher and leader — the challenges, the shifts, and why I thrive on being pushed to keep growing.

Always Learning
It’s taken me a long time to realise that what I truly love is learning. What I’m good at is learning. And what I thrive on — more than anything — is learning. I didn’t fully recognise this until partway through university. That was when it dawned on me that what excited me wasn’t just the subject itself, but the process — the challenge of grappling with something new, of digging deeper, of connecting ideas I hadn’t seen before.

I’m not the “fun mum" but that doesn't mean I'm a bad mum. I’ve realised there’s more than one way to nurture through my musings over the summer

Summer is always a balance between children, house and a bit of work. Today is all about downtime and family as we experience the medieval joust at Lincoln Castle. Always a highlight of the year for our family and it hasn’t disappointed!

Looks like a great event here - and it’s free!
I love CPD and learning but cost is often a factor!
What I love about @ttrhistory.bsky.social is that it is completely accessible in terms of cost - FREE. The people involved give their time freely to share good practice & ideas. Teaching community at it’s best ♥️

Revisited our ‘Curriculum in Objects’ initiative. Initial idea of student led inferences remains in place but we’ve switched to connected closed questions to build confidence and frame the concepts and understanding we want to take forward into the topic. #historyteacher

Really like these 'tweaks' that @jacquiramsden.bsky.social has made to our Define, Connect, Use, Recall sheets in connecting the often abstract key word to concrete examples. This, combined with our review quizzes, will really help improve our work on literacy. Great collaboration! #historyteacher
