This doesn't only apply to cinema, of course! "Art opens up what is possible."
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

Feeling unusually lousy today, but it's just ramped-up normal lousy, & I can't figure out why (among many possible reasons). This is why I always feel bad for PCPs—everyone says "I'm tired & I have a headache" & Dr's supposed to figure out why. The older I get, ofc, the more reasons there could be.

Full of physical and creative/intellectual energy right now, but instead, I'm doing bookkeeping. GAH!

I’m no longer a grad student, so this isn’t for me, sadly. But this was one of the key topics in my dissertation! (Of course Stoler was in my bibliography! Her choice of the term “ruination” is spot on.)

My poems in the gallery at Grosse Pointe Congregational Church. The wheelbarrow poem is my response to Marguerite Carlton’s photo.

A rare morning where there’s nowhere I have to be… Lying in bed, listening to the rain.

"Let me be clear: The president has both the funding and the authority to fund SNAP during a shutdown. In fact, every other president in every other shutdown has done so. People going hungry in this instance is a choice that this president has made.”

My thoroughly GenX self still refuses to pay to stream music I own. I suppose when my 100-disc CD player dies, I might have no other option.

🙄 Oh Adobe. Even my ADHD brain doesn't think 15 pages is that long.

It's an academic article, not a business memo.

Today's Wordle is one of my all-time favorite words.
And I first encountered it in a Sylvia Plath poem, oddly enough. It's her birthday today. (And also her favorite poet, Dylan Thomas'. My mom insists I was not born a week early...)

This is how we remind corporations who actually holds the power in this abusive relationship.
They bent to Trump this year because they thought obedience was good for business.
Time to remind them who signs the checks.

On Friday, I was invited to give the homily at today's Evensong for the Feast of St. Luke (observed).

I know Donald Trump is a pathological liar, malignant narcissistic sociopath, racist, antisemite, misogynist, xenophobe, homophobe, transphobe, hater of our troops and believer in euthanizing folks with disabilities, but we too often forget that he's *also* an adjudicated rapist and convicted felon.

What a great project here in Detroit & Hamtramck! If you can, toss some change his way. The link has a couple of payment options that includes CashApp.
If you'd like to support this effort you can visit buymeacoffee.com/cyclesixmile

You can let me know how you'd like the money to be used, either to buy bike locks or bike lights for students, or to buy food, warming supplies, hygiene supplies, or bus passes for people who I see on my rides.

Saw an Indiana license plate this morning. It had the slogan, "The Crossroads of America."

Yes, there are lots of ways to drive through Indiana. Their slogan is better than another way it could have been worded: "Indiana—You'll Get Through It Somehow."

(Srsly tho, no shade to my neighbor state!)

This is important. The use of the word "constructs" here is important. Social constructs and media reporting, as we keep seeing, distort people's perception of the world and their thinking.
Being targeted for police violence constructs people as criminals. Cops beat someone and the news refers to the victim as a suspect.

No one is covering the GOP's scheme to rig congressional maps for 2026 as closely as Democracy Docket. It is providing gavel to gavel coverage of the ongoing hearing over whether the Texas gerrymander will be in place for the midterms.
