Loving this approach to visually supporting student understanding.
I really do think that colour is helpful to identify steps in multi stage problems. But there is also scope to use it to link parts of a solution to the words in the question.

"The pressures have been such that the wonder is not that some schools have tried to squeeze out pupils with SEND, but that so many have continued with courage and tenacity to do their very best for all." Interesting blog post here from John Cosgrove.

It has seemed to me for a long time that some schools actively work to include all students- and become immensely skilled in the process.

"Theory-building in ed psych is messy, collaborative, & needs boldness + humility". True, certainly of any theory building in any discipline. So grateful to apply psychology in the messy, complex real world which is the only true test of any theory.

Interesting research into exclusions and susoensions. As always, correlation is not csusation, but we do need to ssl ourselves about the impact of the pandemic, of drprivation- and of secondary school cultures.
Lots of thought-provoking stats in this release from the Institute for Government, not least: "In 2023–24, there were an average of five suspensions in every secondary school class, more than double the highest rate seen pre-pandemic." www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/press-releas...

For an informed public debate, and more meaningful engagement, I believe that we need to teach philosophy- even into university level courses. If we don't reflect on how we might know, how can we question what we are told or taught?
The 2025 Curriculum and Assessment Review Final Report was meant to “build a world-class curriculum for all.” In reality, it signals something quite different: the closure of curriculum reform in England. 🧵

A sign that society is developing a better understanding of how abusers systematically deflect blame onto the people they target- and that we are choosing to protect children instead of believing them.
'Child prostitution' convictions to be expunged

I never thought it was "more help after failure" and "less after success".... I thought it was the minimum necessary mediation for the child to feel the joy of successfully taking the next step themselves (in both cases...)
This is such a rich piece of half term reading from @carlhendrick.substack.com. Scaffolding is more complex than it might first appear. The contingency rule is hopelessly reductive, and instead tutors must make "uncertain judgements" about support #edpsychs

If we take seriously the idea that ys humans avoid others' trauma- unconsciously- because it hurts so much, then it is likely that as a society we often fail to recognise or respond to trauma.

Loving this post. EPs are passionate about thoughtful use of research, please ask:

'Can you share the study?”

“What kind of research are you referring to? Is it experimental, correlational, theoretical?” How strong is the evidence?

“Was this tested in real classrooms with students like mine?”

Absolutely loving this thread!
Some (technical, self-determination theory based) thoughts on why this playground feature is a great idea:

1. Cooperation is inherent to the structure (architecturally and socially).

2. It promotes exercise *through* a sense of connection and belonging, enhancing physical and social well-being. 1/
