Just a reminder that in the Los Angeles ICE case, Justice Kavanaugh's concurrence played up the extent to which those *not* properly subject to immigration arrest were detained "briefly" and released "promptly."

Immunity for the executive now creates a terrible double standard that that will actually foster obedience to illegal commands
For over 300 years now, it is a bedrock principle in Anglo-American constitutionalism that obedience is owed according only to law. Refusal to follow an illegal command is not only a moral choice but an absolute duty.

Grade: C- Josh is very bright and quick of thought but often does not spend enough time on his assignments.
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)

On this day in 1830, North Carolina passed laws that criminalized teaching enslaved Black people to read and that made the repeated dissemination of anti-slavery pamphlets punishable by death.
